Ben Stiller gives update on ‘Severance’ Season 2 production timeline

“Severance” was one of the breakout TV shows of 2022. The Apple TV+ thriller appeared on most critics’ top 10 lists and was nominated for 14 Emmys, including Best Drama Series, and won two, for main title design and music composition. Its cliffhanger ending left fans eager to find out what happens next.

But Season 2 is taking a long time. There have been reports of production complications that slowed down the pace of work, and then the strikes caused delays.

Season 2 is currently filming, and no premiere date has been set. However, during a recent appearance on Roommates – a basketball podcast hosted by New York Knicks players Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart – “Severance” executive producer and director Ben Stiller gave a production update. 

“It’s coming soon and we don’t have an actual date but I’ve been working on the second season of it for a long time, since we had a strike, an actor and writer strike, back last year — it went from like May to October. So that cut us off for a while,” Stiller said. “And we’re going to be shooting until probably like the end of April and it will be coming out sometime after that soon.”

Season 1 wrapped filming in June 2021 and premiered in February 2022. If Season 2 follows a similar timeline, it could premiere sometime around Christmas 2024. But to be clear, that is purely speculative, and post-production on Season 2 could take longer or shorter than it did on Season 1. So we’ll see. 

“Severance” follows the employees of a secretive corporation called Lumon Industries who have undergone a process called “severance,” where they do not remember who they are outside of work when they’re inside Lumon’s office, and vice versa. It stars Adam Scott, Patricia Arquette, John Turturro, Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, and Christopher Walken. Season 2 will add Gwendoline Christie, Bob Balaban, Merritt Wever, Alia Shawkat, and more to the cast. It has reportedly already been renewed for Season 3.
