This church is spectacular! I did not know what to expect. I went to Vyserad following the advise of my DK Eyewitness Travel Book. The place is quiet, lovely. It is off the beaten path. There were no tour groups, only some independent visitors mainly from the Czech republic. The exterior of the church is very nice; the interior is WOW! You have to pay a very cheap ticket. Once you cross the door you will see a colorful, magnificent church. The altar is spectacular, the ceiling is very nice, the windows are delicate, and the columns are the most beautiful parts of the church. Every column depicts a saint, including the most important saints from the Czech republic such as St. Wenceslaus, Saint Ludmilla, and others. The church is unique; the interior is a maximal expression of Art Nouveau. I have never seen another Art Nouveau church in my life!

This church is a bit off the beaten path but I would have to put this on the list if visiting Prague. The Vysehrad area is a must-see area of Prague. I found this area to be a place of solitude and relaxation in a hectic and crowded city. The sightseeing around the area itself is very beautiful but the Basilica is spectacular.

We missed the stop to Vysehrad park and then had to navigate our way up into the park and then make our way to the Basilica.
Pope John Paul II designated the Basilica status in 2003.
The church was built in the Neo-Gothisc style.
You can find out a lot about the Basilica by doing research on the internet for it but it can in no way match standing there in such a beautiful and stunning place of worship and seeing it with your own eyes. I cant begin to describe the beauty of this place in words as it was STUNNING.
If you're ever in Prague, do yourself a favor and put this down as a must see item on your itinerary.

We visited the basilica on March 28. There is no tram station in the vicinity of the basilica. We took an Uber to get there.
This is one of the most beautiful churches in Prague. Every wall and ceiling is decorated.
Most of the decorations are Art Nouveau style.
You won't be disappointed.

Wow, what an amazing church to visit.
We looked in on this church as it was open and it had started to rain. I'm so glad we did. The detailed architecture is just mesmerising. Absolutely beautiful.
Definitely worth a look if you visit and you'll not be disappointed.

The Basilica of St Peter and St Paul is a neo-Gothic church in the ground of Vysehrad, and a beautiful example of Czech Gothic with beautiful and colourful walls and ceilings. The sacristy and the Chapel of Our Lady of the Ramparts are exceptional.

There's and entrance fee for the church, but it's small and totally worth it. Inside, there are cards with a description and history of the church, which makes the visit so much more enjoyable.

Once an hour the Vysehrad district is filled with the sound of bells ringing. It is especially beautiful to hear, if you happen to be in the nearby Vysehrad cemetery.

Perched up high on the hill the beautiful church is part of the Vysehrad stunning history and scenery. It has undergone many changes over the centuries.
It is well known for the interesting interior. The decor is richly hand painted, floor to ceiling It's been said that every inch of available surface has been hand painted.Perhaps not to everyone's taste and not the traditional look, but it is certainly interesting.

If you don't want to pay the entrance fee, you can get some of an idea of the interior looking at the richly decorated front door.
The entrance fees in Prague churches are the result of ever increasing tourism numbers. Maintenance costs are higher. To a degree the fees limit and control the crowds. If everything was free, it would be much harder to get inside everywhere. We have gladly paid fees entering churches and historical attractions all throughout Europe.

I have always loved the sound of the church bells ringing here, love the whole Vysehrad district and will surely come back...

For a tiny cost of 50Ck (about 2 Euro) it is well worth going into this church. Modest in size, it is filled with the most beautiful artwork across every inch of wall and ceiling, all in the art deco style. This makes it unique amongst the many other churches available to visit. I have been to churches large and small all over Europe and this is by far my favourite one.
Don't be put off by them asking an entrance fee. It is a small donation that keeps the Basilica maintained, and they also give a written guide in several languages so that you can read the history as well.
Inside is also the Treasury room which contains several interesting treasures from both public and private collections. Take your time to enjoy this amazing and beautiful place. It is the oldest church in Prague, rebuilt and renovated several times after wars. For me it was the number 1 must-see in Prague.

One of the best preserved, maintained Catholic Churches I have ever seen. The decorations are authentic and beautiful. A ver impressive church and well worth a visit. The detail of the walls, pillars and roof is without a doubt the best I have seen. The musical tunes the church bels plays is also something to admire.
I loved the visit.

Elevated to Basilica by Pope John Paul II, it is a church you would not want to miss on your visit to Vysehrad . The churches spires are visible from a distance , all the way from the other side of the Vltava river. The front door is beautiful and very decorative- indicative of what the interior of the church will be like. Inside the walls, pillars and ceilings are covered in ornate decorations , the wooden benches are ornately carved. There is a small entrance fee, but they will let you take a free look from the entrance.
Do take look even if you don't have the time for a longer visit. There is a lot to see all around the church, beautiful park with statuary (Myslbek), and of course the famous Slavin cemetery.
Do not skip the Basilica on your visit to Vysehrad, whatever little time you have.
