Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I went out of my way to have a coffee here... what a disappointment, Hark may roast their own coffee but it is served with Pauls milk ... when questioned the owner said he ran a business and profit is important..... Tell that to the...dairy farmers ........... You are only pretending to make good coffee if you use cheap nasty milk and charge as if your using good milk. Just for the record Coca Cola own Pauls milkMore

Do not visit Hark if you like to talk to your companions. Today, any conversation was drowned out by the noise of a guitarist, complete with microphone and amplifier. It was terrible. If I wanted loud music, I would go to a pub, not a...suburban coffee shop. Avoid.More

They roast their coffee beans with air so you don't get that burnt taste. It's dark but smooth and tasty. The shop is kid and dog friendly and has amazing vibe. Extra friendly service every time. You can order your coffee online and they deliver...it to your door for free. <3More

Couldn’t believe how bad the coffee was, it was lukewarm ( which I didn’t mind ) but it tasted sour not bitter and I couldn’t drink it all. Given the cost I expected better and even expected a saucer for my cup. The service from...the waitress was woeful, a smile and a bit of enthusiasm wouldn’t have gone astray. Now that I have tried them I can tell all my friends about my experience. $6.20 for a cup of woeful coffee!!!More

Don't go here if you hate loud, screeching music while you're trying to eat your food, drink your coffe or talk to your partner. I visted this place recently and as a coffee lover for more than 40 years I asked the staffer behind the...counter which bean they offered had the richest flavour with the least bitter after-taste they offered for an espresso I wanted to drink at one of their outside tables. The staffer couldn't hear me because the music inside this place is so loud. I had to repeat my question by yelling it to the staffer. Upon hearing my question the staffer told me loudly that all the bean varieties they offered had the same rich flavour and no bitter aftertaste. I said loudly thatif they all taste the same why don't they offer just one bean variety ? He thought for a moment and then loudly recommended a particular bean which I agreed to try for a cup of espresso. I then told the staffer that the music inside this place was way too loud and that we shouldn't need to yell at each other to hear each other. At this point the manager of this place, who was serving neaby over the counter nearby, interrupted and told me to stop criticising his staffer. Of course I wasn't criticising his staffer - I was criticising the ridiculously loud music inside this place. I also pointed out to the young manager that no one was sitting inside the cafe due to the loud, screeching music. He didn't respond to this point so I went to the furtherst and quietest outside table to wait for my food and coffee. As I stepped outside the cafe to walk to a relatively quite outside table two people standing in the queue to order told me I was right about the loud music and it was the reason why they never ate or drank here - they told me they always ordered coffee to takaway. After a few minutes the young manager served my food and coffee and wanted to continue to argue the point with me. I told him he needed to be considerate to his customers by turning the screeching music down and then may be some of his customers would be willing to sit inside and everyone could have a normal level of conversation including customers and staff transacting over the counter sales inside. The young manager walked away clearly seething and I then heard him mock me to other customers. The young manager of this place is deeply insecure and doesn't accept any criticism of any kind - just read the other poor Tripadvisor review of this place. I've travelled widely across the world over the last 40 years and have eaten at hundreds of different cafes and restaurants in dozens of countries. I've been leaving Tripadvisor and Google reviews almost since the time these platforms came online. Most of the cafes and restaurants I've tried are unremarkable so I don't post reviews of them. Instead, I only ever post 5 star or 1 star reviews. I believe the world needs to know why a cafe or restaurant is 5 star or why its 1 star. I just checked and about half of all of my reviews are 1 star and about half are 5 stars. This is a 1 star cafe for the deafening inside music where you have to order and for the contemptious, arrogant manner of its young immature and deeply insecure manager.More

Coffee today at Hark (Malvern) is $6 a cup! Is that an Australia Day special? Unhappy Australia Day! Worse than that: coffee is only available in paper cups and you have to ASK for things like sugar and spoons. Very disappointing!

This is a coffee roaster. It serves one specific item - coffee. It is roasted in house, which is pretty obvious because you are sitting next to all the machinery. I am not sure what drove these young dudes to buy a big coffee roasting...machine and set it up on the quiet end of Duthy Street, down town Malvern. But one thing is for sure the coffee is stunning. I'm not some coffee taster that goes around the world understanding the nuances of this bean and its percolated nectar, but like most I can tell a watery cup of dishwater from something a bit special and this is a bit special. The cafe front does offer some light repast suitable for breakfast or a light lunch, but don't expect anything like bacon and eggs, because that would kill the fruity aroma of coffee drifting through the place and redolent a block up the road. But its not just the coffee, its the engaging staff. These goys really love a chat, and love it when people bring their dogs, and their kids. And they obviously love their coffee. If you are driving by drop in. Just for the coffee.More

Only went for coffee but the service was great and coffees fantastic. Most seating us outside which is fine. They have many many dogs come and visit which is super fun. They even have a big floofer inside, assuming he belongs to one of the...workers/owners. Definitely coming back.More

This is extraordinary coffee, full of flavour and worth driving long distances to drink. Family friendly, dog friendly al fresco and full of locals who see it as their prime meeting place.
