* Adaptational Villainy: In the original story, while incredible jerkasses who steal Toad's house while he is in prison, requiring Toad and his friends to drive them out in the climax, the weasels aren't truly villains. The Disney film, however, turns them into full-fledged criminals who use the naive Toad as a fall guy for their auto-theft by tricking him into trading Toad Hall for the stolen motor car. Early versions of the film played this trope even more so, by having them nearly shoot the gang just to prevent them from exposing them, only to be saved just barely by the police showing up upon hearing the commotion.
* Adaptational Wimp: In the original novel, the four protagonists snuck into Toad Hall to face the weasels in direct Good Old Fisticuffs, and won, scaring all the weasels out. In the film they are clearly outmatched by the weasels and have to retreat with the deed to Toad Hall. It's especially noticeable with Angus MacBadger; in the book Badger was feared and respected by the weasels from the start because he could take on any number of them, but in the movie he's more of a neurotic if temperamental older gentleman who isn't much use in a fight and is easily the one who's the least involved in the struggle for the deed to Toad Hall.

* WhoWouldBeStupidEnough?: The prosecutor refuses to believe Cyril's testimony because he refuses to believe that Toad would be stupid enough to trade Toad Hall, an estate worth hundreds of thousands of pounds, for a simple motorcar.

* AmoralAttorney: Not in the traditional sense given that he is just doing his job, but he seems all too eager to prove Toad guilty just in the occurrence of the trial.

* ThriftyScot: Angus MacBadger, who is in charge of Toad's finances. Although pretty much anyone would be thriftier than Toad.

* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: The narration describes him as 'stuffy, but a fine fellow' and for the most part, he does behave strictly, but not withotu good intentions.

* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Ichabod's first appearance has the narrator describing his unusual body type. And when he comes into Sleepy Hollow, we get a good look at his personality: He helps a woman with a tray of pies and slyly hides one in his book before eating it, meaning getting the pie was his true objective. Also, when Ichabod comes into contact with a ladder and black cat, he moves around the former and turns the latter in a different direction by pulling its tail with his cane. In short, he's a sly, BitchInSheepsClothing with a huge appetite and even ''huger'' belief in superstitions.
* FatalFlaw: Ichabod is a firm believer of superstitions, evident by the above incident with the ladder and the black cat. After he accidentally knocks over a salt shaker, he immediately panics and starts tossing salt over his shoulder while hoping nobody is looking. Brom uses this to his advantage by telling the tale of the Headless Horseman purposefully to terrify him. Even if the Horseman wasn't real, Ichabod's terrified mindset before and during the chase only made his attempt to cross the bridge more difficult that it needed to.
* GagNose: He has a very pointed beak-like nose.
* GoldDigger: A male example. Ichabod mostly wants to marry Katrina so he can inherit her father's wealth.
* HorrorStruck: Averted, in that Ichabod fervently believes in all supernatural phenomena -- even when (as it is strongly implied) the phenomena ''aren't'' supernatural. Later adaptations sometimes play the trope straight.
* InkSuitActor: He bears some resemblance to Bing Crosby, just slimmer and with a long hooked nose.
* {{Jerkass}}: Ichabod gets less and less appealing as the story goes on. He calls Katrina's father "an old goat" and is particularly only interested in her because of her money.

* PinkMeansFeminine: Her main color scheme is pink and she's a picture of femininity.
* SpoiledSweet: She's rich and everyone dotes on her, but she is a genial person who doesn't like Ichabod getting bullied.

Her song even describes her as a "coquette", meaning "a woman who endeavors without sincere affection to gain the attention and admiration of men". Part of the reason she was dating Ichabod in the first place was because she wasn't pleased with Brom Bones intimidating all her would-be suitors away so easily, wanting him to at least sweat for her affections before she was willing to return them.

* AbhorrentAdmirer: Downplayed. Tilda is actually fairly tame for this trope, but Brom sees her as this.

* MaybeMagicMaybeMundane: There are some hints suggesting that the Headless Horseman is real, namely Ichabod's horrified reaction when he sees what's under the horseman's collar and horseman's horse acting in supernatural ways, but there's also several hints suggesting that it's really Brom Bones in disguise; Namely that Brom is well-built hunk who owns a black horse, is seen at one point wielding an old cavalry sabre, has access to flaming pumpkins at the party, is known to be a prankster, and would be more than happy to see his old rival disappear from Sleepy Hollow.
* NightmareFuelStationAttendant: A tall, headless ghost dressed completely in black and riding a matching red-eyed horse. The constant laughing certainly doesn't help, either...
* NonstandardCharacterDesign: The Headless Horseman and his stead are entirely pitch black with white highlights and are designed with a more serious and hyper-realistic design in comparison to the more comedic designs of the world, but especially in comparison to Ichabod and his horse.
* PumpkinPerson: He carries around a flaming jack-o-lantern as a replacement for his own lost head.
* RearingHorse: As his image above shows he's first introduced on the back of his horse who stands up among the graveyard's tombstones.
* RealAfterAll: It's never confirmed whether this is the real Horseman or just Brom Bones in disguise, but there are a few hints that he might be the real thing. His horse can apparently jump heights and distances that would shatter a real horse's legs, -- and possibly more -- he pulls his sword and flaming pumpkin [[HammerSpace from seemingly out of nowhere]], and [[NothingIsScarier whatever Ichabod sees]] when he looks down the guy's collar is obviously ''horrific''.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: He wears a black suit and a long red cape. We're not really sure if he's ''evil'', but he's definitely ''hostile''. Same goes for his black horse with red eyes. While it's unclear if the horse itself is evil either, it ''certainly'' looks mean and angry.
* RedEyesTakeWarning: His mean looking horse has red eyes.
* RedIsViolent: He wears a large red cape and he's a murderous ghost (or so he seems) trying to behead Ichabod.

* AntiVillain: Sleepy Hollow goes out of its way to prove that Brom Bones, while he's not above terrorizing the local schoolmaster to drive him out of town or bullying Katrina's other suitors, isn't really bad, and may in fact be a better husband for Katrina (unlike Ichabod, who appears to care more about her money). Also considering [[ButtMonkey how much he had been through]], its hard not to sympathize with him.

* EstablishingCharacterMoment: Ichabod's first appearance has the narrator describing his unusual body type. And when he comes into Sleepy Hollow, we get a good look at his personality: He helps a woman with a tray of pies and slyly hides one in his hat before eating it, meaning getting the pie was his true objective. Also, when Ichabod comes into contact with a ladder and black cat, he moves around the former and turns the latter in a different direction by pulling its tail with his cane. In short, he's a sly, BitchInSheepsClothing with a huge appetite and even ''huger'' belief in superstitions.

* {{Sadist}}: He shows sign of this. He laughs evilly as he chases Ichabod down seemingly enjoying his fear expecially when he (Ichabod)looks down his collar and reacts terrified.
