The poster, title and tag line for this film are incredibly misleading, and it's too bad because the film is better than whatever the hell the studio is trying to sell.
Successfully pokes fun at familiar sports movie tropes and does have some funny quotable dialog, but falls short of being the cult classic it wants to be.

Don't let the bizarre, misguided poster stop you from watching this. "Balls Out" is one of the sharpest spoof comedies I've seen in a long time and the most quotable movie of 2015. Its adherence to sports film cliches for the sake of parody does result in a romantic subplot that sometimes slows the comedy down uncomfortably, but not quite to a halt. So, so, so much fun to be had here, with a fantastic ensemble cast and 9/11 inspired glitter.
not as bad as the poster makes it out to be, but i really would watch anything at all for jake lacy so
Balls Out has the potential to be a funny comedy, but it fails to score on enough jokes to make this film a winner. I'm a firm believer that if a movie like this earns itself an R rating, it should go 'balls out' with expletives, nudity and other raunchy behavior, but Balls Out mostly wimps out and likely earned its adult rating over a poop gag. While the film falls short of the goal line, it's not due to a lack of effort by the cast who does their best with the material they are given.
Gets closer to evoking the authentic snot-nosed braying petulance of Animal House and its druggy, Ivy League anarchist ethos than most modern movies of its ilk, and if I thought there was even the slightest cultural value to maintaining that tradition this shambolic throwaway might be worth defending.
