Bagshot Park: Inside the £30million royal residence where Sophie Wessex and Edward live

BAGSHOT PARK is the lavish royal residence of Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex. What does it look like inside?

With speculation that the youngest son is her favourite child, and that his daughter is her dearest grandchild, it's no surprise that  and live just a short car ride away from the Queen in Bagshot Park.

Located a mere 11 miles away from the Her Majesty's home at Windsor Castle, Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, also reside in the beautiful Surrey countryside.

In a past interview with Sky News, Sophie explained the importance of being near the matriarch.

She told them: "We're a lot more fortunate because we live so close to the Queen, so when she spends a lot of time at Windsor on the weekends, our children are more fortunate because they can go over and have tea with her on a regular basis."

They have been at the residence for more than two decades, having moved there following their 1999 wedding in the St George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.

And the royal couple have no plans to leave the Queen's side, with The Telegraph reporting that they have renewed their lease from The Crown Estate for another 150 years.

Before their marriage, Sophie lived with her parents at Homestead Farmhouse, located in Brenchley, Kent.

Estimated at £1million, it is, while lovely, a far cry from the Grade II listed, 120-room mansion that is Bagshot Park.

The 51 acre space, surrounded by plenty of stunning greenery, is reportedly worth a whopping £30million.

Boasting 20 rooms, Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace, the home of Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, pales in comparison size-wise.

Despite being a royal residence, Bagshot Park is a private home, so unlike Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and Sandringham, the general public cannot visit it in person.

But, non-royals have been given a sneak peek into the sprawling world of Bagshot Park through photographs and occasional press events.

When Prince Edward opened the new NHS Nightingale hospital in Bristol, he did so from his home office, allowing royal fans a glimpse into the home.

As he congratulated those involved in constructing the hospital in a mere 24 days, the background of his video displayed a large bookcase filled to the brim with colourful books, framed photographs and ornaments of animal figures.

Despite its grand exterior, the room gave off a homely, lived-in ambience.

When Covid-19 saw schools closed last year, and Bagshot Park became a homeschool for Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn, Sophie took to Instagram to reach out to fellow parents about learning resources.

On the bookcase behind her were reams of DVDs, games, books and the odd toy.

The BBC's Naga Munchetty visited Bagshot Park to interview the Countess ahead of the United Nations' international day for the elimination of sexual violence in conflict.

The conversation also followed the death of her father-in-law Prince Philip, and she discussed the devastating impact it had had on her family.

The background of the video shows white walls with white lamps, simple wooden furniture, a beautiful marble fireplace and a huge mirror framed gold.

The carpets are muted green, with a green armchair flecked with yellow and blue, and light green sofa.

As is typical of royal residences, the walls are littered with artwork encased in intricate golden frames.
