      Critics Consensus

Ari Graynor's comedic talents are largely wasted on Bad Teacher, which reboots the same shtick from the movie with none of the edge.

steve d I thought the cast was fun and the scripts funny. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member My family and I really enjoy this show. I have tried to encourage my family and friends that are teachers to really watch this show. Meredith walks the line, but always seems to do the right thing. I think that it is really awesome that she always standing up for the "geeks" on the safety patrol. I am hoping that the network will rethink their decision to cancel. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm surprised to tell you guy that I liked. Yeah coming from a guy who didn't like the movie, I think the TV show is way better then that mess of a film. Well of course I do have two huge problems though. Like one, the main star of this show is way miscast. Sometimes I do find her funny but she just doesn't get me laughing like Cameron Diaz did in the movie. But the supporting characters around her do make up for it. The biggest flaw this show has is that it's story is really weak. The jokes are funnier than the movie version. But some of the slapstick can get old. What else is there to say, while Bad Teacher has a weak miscast star and a terribly week story, it gives you decent slapstick, great side characters, a talented cast including Sarah Gilbert and David Alan Grier, and some great dialogue once in a while. Next time, I'll be reviewing the comedy flop Sean Saves the World and then the not so lucky TV shw Lucky 7. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Dialogue is cheesy and punch lines are way off. Don't see it Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Wow, just wow. This isn't is the lowest point in American television, but its damn pretty close. The show is like a bucket of feces, they are just throwing shit all over the wall, with no rhyme or reason, just trying to seeing what sticks. Except it isn't a wall at all, its a black hole they are throwing it into; from which neither light nor turd can escape. The jokes are uninspired, the premise is uninspired, for only 22 minutes the show feels over long, over bloated, over sexed over dumb and worst all; over here. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Not that great. It's nowhere near as funny as its source material, nor edgy, it disappoints and doesn't really entertain. Los Angeles Times The show does take a few episodes to settle. (I have seen three.) But all in all, it's a pleasant, sunny and well-played ephemeral farce. Apr 24, 2014 Full Review Diane Garrett TheWrap Bad Teacher puts on a crass front but is saved by a kindly heart. Apr 24, 2014 Full Review Alessandra Stanley New York Times The writing loosens up later on, and has some charm. Apr 24, 2014 Full Review Jessica Johnson Time Out Chicago While the TV series has reeled in some impressive and underrated comedic performers, they're wasted in this repetitive and annoying series. Jul 3, 2018 Full Review Molly Freeman Hollywood.com We're enjoying the Bad Teacher TV comedy much more than the movie. May 1, 2014 Full Review Joyce Slaton Common Sense Media The casting for Bad Teacher is brilliant. Graynor is enormously appealing as the lead, balancing an insouciant affect with a slinky, thrown-off, ironic villainy. Rated: 3/5 Apr 28, 2014 Full Review Read all reviews
