The Cowboys’ staff worked swiftly to nab a running back out of Utah the week before Signing Day.

Sesi Vailahi, a 5-foot-11, 190-pound back out of West High School in Salt Lake City, announced his commitment to Oklahoma State on Friday. The Cowboys offered Vailahi on Tuesday.

A three-star prospect, Vailahi picked the Pokes over offers from BYU, Nevada, Utah State and others.

Playing at running back and wide receiver, Vailahi helped lead his high school to a state quarterfinal this past season. According to MaxPreps, he had 240 rushing yards on 32 carries, 607 receiving yards on 24 catches and 13 total touchdowns. He also made 48 tackles, four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 11 pass breakups, an interception, a forced fumble and a pair of fumble recoveries as a defender.

Vailahi is the first high school running back the Cowboys have taken in the 2023 class. It was a big recruiting day for running backs coach John Wozniak, as he also landed Southeast High standout Rodney Fields, a 2024 prospect, earlier in the day.

National Signing Day is Wednesday. After signing 17 in the early period, Oklahoma State is set to sign at least three in the regular period with Vailahi and wide receivers Jalen Pope and Tykie Andrews.
