Powerfully acted and sensitively directed, Babyteeth offers audiences a coming-of-age story that's messier -- and more rewarding -- than most.

chitown2bayarea If you want a great cry, this movie will get the job done. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/24 Full Review Sarah L Heart wrenching and poetic. Subtle and real. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/04/24 Full Review Cole D First time I've cried in a movie before. These are the special moments in life… where you open up a gem by accident, and it becomes one of the most impactful movies you have watched. Brilliant Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/30/23 Full Review Josh E It lacked substance, there were so many plot angles that lacked resolution, purpose or conflict. The movie was unoriginal and not unique, a pretty basic concept for a story, that attempted to work in individuality that was boring and basic. Had no empathy for the characters, their choices resulted in their downfall and it wasn't pleasant to watch. A completely boring and unmotivated movie. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/19/23 Full Review Todd C What a sweet, sweet movie. The acting was top notch. It is a different kind of coming of age story that has so many themes that it is messy, but oh so worthwhile to get in the muck. There are some veterans in this film: Essie Davis and Ben Mendelsohn who play the parents of Milla (Scanlen). They were great in their roles. Essie Davis especially. Then there is the stars (Scanlen and Wallace) and they stole the whole show. I had never seen Wallace before, but his part as the drug addicted and drug dealing boyfriend was believable from the start. Scanlen was deserving of honors for her portrayal of the cancer victim high school student that was teaching all around her to let go and find grace in this life. I loved how Milla, knowing she was dying could of cared less about the "bad decisions" that others felt she was making, and looked to take care of Moses even after she was gone. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/04/23 Full Review Steve M This film really blew me away. The writing, the performances, the direction etc were exceptional. The characters were so rich and nuanced. Though cancer was underneath everything in the story, it was the relationships that really told this story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Tim Robey Daily Telegraph (UK) Mendelsohn and Davis are old pros, but he hasn't been anything like this good since Mississippi Grind five years ago, and it's hard not to credit this partly to her, a scene partner who's one of the best in the business. Rated: 5/5 Nov 22, 2020 Full Review Kimber Myers Crooked Marquee Babyteeth is authentic and unexpected, thanks to both [director Shannon] Murphy's confident style and the nuanced script from Rita Kalnejais ... Rated: B+ Nov 16, 2020 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) The kind of skittish, reckless film-making that makes you want to rush headlong into bad decisions and savour every last messy moment of the fallout. Rated: 5/5 Aug 16, 2020 Full Review Greg Carlson Vague Visages Much of Babyteeth's vitality can be located in the way each of the central characters is so fully realized. Feb 7, 2024 Full Review Serena Seghedoni Loud and Clear Reviews Shannon Murphy’s devastatingly honest, surprisingly fun coming-of-age cancer drama Babyteeth captures the absurdity of life. Rated: 4/5 Aug 13, 2023 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut Babyteeth leaves you with the feeling of pure elation and palpable regret. Shannon Murphy’s debut feature will surely be remembered as one of the year’s very best films. Rated: 5/5 Sep 1, 2022 Full Review Read all reviews
