Aubrey Plaza, everyone’s favorite deadpanning actress, discussed her sexuality this week in a new interview with The Advocate, an LGBT-interest magazine. The 32-year-old Plaza revealed that she falls in love with both men and women.
“I know I have an androgynous thing going on, and there’s something masculine about my energy,” Plaza said. “Girls are into me — that’s no secret. Hey, I’m into them too. I fall in love with girls and guys. I can’t help it.”
Plaza said she recognized that by age 12 she had found a home in community theater, which allowed her to let her “freak flag fly.” The Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates star said that although she grew up in a heavily Irish Catholic, Republican area, her family has always been open about sexuality. Her younger sister is a lesbian, and Plaza has a pretty strong following in the LGBT community.
“It makes sense to me,” Plaza said. “I feel like I operate in an old-school way that only gays truly understand … Like I grew up obsessed with Judy Garland, and I was also obsessed with how much she meant to her following.”
