The market, along the Lachine Canal, offers cheese, local produce, baked goods and meat from different vendors. Buy food there and head to the canal for a picnic.

The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Le Sud-Ouest (Southwest District)
Once the core of industrialised Montreal, the factories and historic buildings of Le Sud-Ouest have been renovated into homes, museums, and small businesses. The rejuvenated landscape has put its Saint-Henri district in vogue, with cutting-edge galleries and an ever-expanding network of restaurants. Foodies can especially delight in the mom-and-pop shops in Little Burgundy, or at the Atwater Market, where outdoor stalls sell fresh fruit, vegetables, and meat, street vendors have menus of hot fish and wine, and the indoor market offers chocolate, breads, and coffee beans. Dominated by the gentle waters of the Lachine Canal, Le Sud-Ouest is still very much an outdoor town, with a number of pedestrian-only bridges traversing the waters, bike paths along the canal with views of the Leisure Boats, and massive green spaces like Angrignon Park to stop for a picnic, or to play a sport.

    Flowers galore and more
Great place to go to get fresh produce. They also have meats, cheese, flowers, and tons of pastry shops. The river channel is next to the market, great place to have an ice cream and people watch. You can also rent bikes to ride around the park. Just a couple of blocks straight up from the metro station.

    Terrific Market
This is a terrific food market that includes the best imported food store I have ever found. The fresh food in the stalls is quite good and the merchants are friendly. The walk to the Metro is possible but a bit long. There is parking.

Even if you don't want to buy anything, it's worth a visit
I like markets, I like to go shopping there or just to look around. That's why I couldn't miss this second largest market in Toronto (after Jean-Talon Market). Outdoor stands offered flowers, fruits and vegetables, or maple syrup products. The inner market is home to many butchers, bakeries, grocery stores and restaurants. There you can buy cheese, wine, fish and ingredients for all kinds of world cuisines such as Arabic, Japanese or European cuisine. The market building is in the Art Deco style and its dominant feature is the clock tower. It is definitely worth going here, whether you want to buy fresh farm products or simply see what it looks like here.

A fun place to browse and/or dine.
Very fun place to visit, sort of a farmer’s market. Excellent food in food courts and restaurants or to take out. We went back several times to dine, especially for breakfast.

    Wall to wall food
This foodies paradise is well worth a visit. It is near the Canal Lachine. Outside there are excellent stalls with fresh fruit and vegetables while inside the is everything from meat and maple syrup to patisseries and cheese. Note: the nearest Metro station is the one after Atwater - Lionel - Groulx

The highlight of my visit there was the famous Montreal bakery located at the end of the market. It might be confusing for first timers, but once the self service system is figured the service is quite smooth. There are different lines depending on options such as eat-inside or take-out, and different queues for take-aways. Athentic Canadian items such as date squares are found. I opted for a lunch special that included a tasty soup, and a French Canadian classic, paté chinois, which was as good as the one made by my mother. It's worth the Metro ride from downtown to Lionel-Groulx station.

I love markets they bring people closer to those who work so hard on farms to produce all kinds of food that we sometimes underestimate. I like that there were berries, honey, cheese, ice cream and many many dogs! There are also many other stores and food groceries around so when preparing dinner for guests, you only have one stop to make.
