Best can realistically expect is just sober. He’ll never be happy.
I’m not sure he can’t be happy and what a lot of people would consider “not sober.” By that I mean he’s maintaining on Subutex, which allows him to interact with a few close friends and allows his mom and sister some peace. He gets “mailbox money” (residuals) enough to keep a small place. That might make him happy.
The “what could have been” (professionally, Dana, etc) would haunt me forever.
As for as most people are concerned, being on Subutex is clean.
Not AA, where for some weird reason nicotine addiction is tolerated but opiate maintenance is not.

He 100% was working at a gas station as a pump attendant, there's video evidence of it. But it had nothing to do with being broke, his probation/parole required him to have a job, and stand-up was out of the question for him since the atmosphere would have been too triggering.

He said that was like 5 figures (which was nice at the time) but that it wasn’t always going to be that much. Even Stern said he only gets like a few dollars a year from Private Parts and he starred in it (Artie was literally only in one scene in Elf)
Stern was lying. Artie was also in Old School, Dirty Work, Mad TV, Crashing, Entourage and other featured actor roles on tv shows I can’t remember off the top of my head. Sure, Beer League didn’t do well at the box office but it’s currently streaming on Amazon and a bunch of other sites, just like everything else I mentioned.
I’m not in the business anymore but I did freelance as a writer for a bit and have a close friend who is. If I had to guess I would think Artie pulls in $75k a year from all of the stuff he did back in the day. It’s taxed of course, so it’s not going to allow him to live lavishly but hopefully he’s doing well and continuing to work on his health. I’ll always be rooting for the baby gorilla.
