Arthur Windsor - 100 People - The images in this gallery are under reconstruction
This portrait of Arthur Windsor launches the 100 People Gallery.

On 18th June 1944 Arthur and his colleagues landed on the beaches of Normandy, France.

Arthur was a radio operator within the GHQ Liaison Regiment, known as "Phantom", and worked within General Montgomery's HQ team from D Day plus 12 through to the German surrender at Luneberg Heath on 4th May 1945, a journey of 1,100 miles.

After the surrender Arthur and a number of his colleagues were then transported to their headquarters in Richmond Hill, London for training preparation for the planned invasion of Japan which was subsequently postponed.

Arthur then returned to Germany to assist with the release of German POW's and those in labour camps before he was "demobbed" in 1946 to restart his career at the Central Electricity Board where he became responsible for the logistics of moving coal from collieries to power stations.

A true gentleman who I am very privileged to be able to call a friend and a great man to launch this exciting new gallery.
