The Art of Racing in the Rain
20th Century Fox

Imagine the movie Marley and Me but with some racing thrown in, and you'll basically understand the idea behind a new movie called The Art of Racing in the Rain. Based on a 2008 novel by Garth Stein, the story takes place from the point of view of a dog named Enzo whose owner is a car-racing fanatic. It stars Milo Ventimiglia, Amanda Seyfried, and Kevin Costner as the voice of the dark, and the trailer is now out.

Of course, the cars are the real draw for us, and we spotted clips showing several different racing series including Formula 1 and some sort of GT-car racing with a BMW M4 GT4 prominently shown. There’s also a nice BMW 3.0 CS shown at one point, although we can’t spot exactly what year or model. And then there's that iconic Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa.

The movie is directed by Simon Curtis, with a screenplay adapted by Mark Bomba, and it opens in theaters August 9. Check out the trailer below.

Despite being raised on a steady diet of base-model Hondas and Toyotas—or perhaps because of it—Joey Capparella nonetheless cultivated an obsession for the automotive industry throughout his childhood in Nashville, Tennessee. He found a way to write about cars for the school newspaper during his college years at Rice University, which eventually led him to move to Ann Arbor, Michigan, for his first professional auto-writing gig at Automobile Magazine. He has been part of the Car and Driver team since 2016 and now lives in New York City.
