Archie 'couldn't care less' about birthday clash with Coronation as row branded 'nonsense'

Royal commentator Angela Levin said criticism raised by some fans of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry against the Royal Family after it was announced the Coronation of King Charles will take place on the day of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's fourth birthday was "ridiculous". The author of Camilla: From Outcast to Queen Consort, also told Express.co.uk: "The child will be four and I don't think they start looking at calendar dates and get crossed [at that age]. I haven't met one yet who has done that.

"And I think as long as he has cake and presents he couldn't care less."

Ms Levin added that in the future, Archie may even appreciate the fact he shares the birthday with a historic event linked to his family. 

She said: "On the other hand, if you wanted to be positive, he might be quite happy, it is honourable to have his birthday on the same day as his grandfather's Coronation, which he will think about when he is much older."

The commentator went on branding the criticism levelled at the Firm by some Sussex fans as "just nonsense".

Shortly after Buckingham Palace shared details of the upcoming Coronation of the new King, a few fans of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex took to Twitter, including Iris (@IrisTheeScholar).

They wrote: "So King Charles The Cruel has set his Coronation for the 6th of May next year... AKA his grandson Prince Archie of Sussex’s 4th birthday."

Similarly, Jennifer Watts (@JenniferEWatts) tweeted: "Royalists freak out when the Sussexes release a picture two days after the rest of the family or does anything when a birthday pic of the Cambridge kids is released, saying it overshadows them, but by all means schedule your coronation on Archie's birthday. The audacity."

The second child of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Lilibet 'Lili' Diana, has already shared her birthday with another major event earlier this year.

On June 4, when Lili turned one, the UK and the Firm were celebrating the third day of the Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend.

Upon sharing which date the Coronation of the new King will be held, Buckingham Palace also revealed the event will take place at Westminster Abbey and that the Queen Consort will be crowned side by side with her husband, as it happened to the Queen Mother during the Coronation of King George VI.

The statement read: "The Ceremony will see His Majesty King Charles III crowned alongside The Queen Consort.

"The Coronation will reflect the monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry. Further details will be announced in due course."

It is not yet known whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be in attendance at the Coronation.

Ms Levin argued their presence at the sacred event may depend on "what comes out of the Netflix documentary and Harry's memoir".

The royal commentator referred to a docu-series in the works for Netflix, with which Meghan and Harry signed a multi-year deal in 2020.

While no official statement has been shared on this programme and little is known about it, the Duchess briefly mentioned it in an interview with Variety earlier this month.

Speaking about director Liz Garbus, she said: "It’s nice to be able to trust someone with our story — a seasoned director whose work I’ve long admired — even if it means it may not be the way we would have told it.

"But that’s not why we’re telling it. We’re trusting our story to someone else, and that means it will go through their lens."

On the other hand, Penguin Random House, the publisher of Prince Harry's announced memoir, recently shared more details about the upcoming book.

The memoir will be titled Spare and is set to be released on January 10 next year.

The publisher said Spare will include "raw, unflinching honesty" and is set to provide "insight, revelation, self-examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief".
