10. Fun fact from consequence:
“Win Butler: The vocals for “Haiti” were recorded in the bathroom of our loft, because for Régine, it was such a personal song that she didn’t wanna do it in the studio. She did it lights out, in the dark, in the bathroom with a dictaphone. Around the 50th second, you can hear a click sound … you can hear her push the “stop” button on this tape machine.”
10. The live version when Regine screams out the last line is outstanding
Which live performance is this ? :)

10 - the best song on Funeral and one of Arcade Fire's best ever. It's transcendental live.
It's one of their greatest live songs, but if we're just counting the album version, then 7/10.

8.5. Great song / track but one of my least favorite from funeral
Ok I know I've been throwing them around like a madman but 10. Makes me cry every single time, and once again, the outro is brilliant.
10, for sure

OMG I went to hear it and yes, you can clearly hear the click 😦
I'd give "Haiti" a 7.8. It's a really well-written song and it's so different than all of the other songs on the album. I also think it acts as a nice introduction to who Regine is as not just a vocalist, but obviously the song gets into her youth and her own life.
Having said that, it's not one of my favourite tracks on the album. I wouldn't mind hearing it live from time to time. But the band seems to have left this song in the past now.
Studio version? 4. The instruments and background sounds make Regine very hard to hear, which I find detrimental to such powerful lyrics
However, the 2020 New Orleans version? 10/10, we can hear Regine and the power in her voice coupled with such amazing lyrics is amazing.

Fantastic song, 9/10 I wouldn’t put it on myself but I think it’s a such a great personal moment on the album
High 9's if not a 10. Ironically, I wake up to this song every morning - and it's my favorite to see them perform live (while in my top 5 AF songs overall).

6. Fun riff and cool segue into "Rebellion (Lies)", but definitely my lesser favorites from Funeral.

Absolute 10
10. Everything about this song is amazing. I like it even better live when Regine sings the final verse especially this version: https://youtu.be/DHcuu0ogR3o?si=wPXBvipx9MgLTloH
There are no other Arcade Fire songs like this. Every time I hear this song, I am transported to a sorrowful paradise, and I feel grief and I feel hope. Régine’s vocals are full of honesty and vulnerability, and the way she switches between English and French is perfect. The lyrics “guns can’t kill what soldiers can’t see” is enough for me to give this an 11/10.
