An original and clever sequel-with-prequel-flashbacks structure, but in practice, it felt too prequel-heavy, which threw it off balance for me. The prequel story was interesting, but part of me is wondering if it was necessary.
The long runtime sadly felt longer than it was, especially since the first three films had much richer storylines and characters to compensate for theirs. In saying that though, the ending felt earned and fitting for the end of the film saga.
As with the other films, there was some great cinematography and a solid performance by
Hannah Endicott-Douglas.
(I also laughed so hard at the Comic Sans “Just Married” sign in the 1945 setting.)
