Girlfriend stabbed her boyfriend to death and told 999 handler 'I've stabbed him and now he's f***ing dying' after he choked her during sex, court hears as she denies murder

A mother accused of murdering her boyfriend with a single stab wound claimed he liked 'rough sex'. 

Hayley Keating, 31, told the court that 45-year-old Matthew Wormleighton choked her regularly with his hands and belt causing her to 'pass out'.

In one instance Keating claims she told her partner, after regaining consciousness, that it felt like rape. 

It's said that on the night Mr Wormleighton died at a property in Chilthorne Domer near Yeovil on May 14 last year that the couple were arguing when she picked up a knife from a kitchen drawer. 

This was when she threw it at him where it lodged four inches into his chest during an incident fuelled by drink and drugs, Bristol Crown Court was told. 

The hearing also heard a recording of the mother-of-two, who denies murder, telling  a 999 call handler that night that she had stabbed him and now 'he's f***ing dying, Somerset Live reports.

Keating, of Chilthorne Domer, told the court: 'Sometimes he would choke me out, I would pass out.

'Sometimes he would do it with his hands. Sometimes he would do it with a belt, quickly around my head in a loop.

'I would be on all four's and he was behind me. I would pass out and it was scary coming back 'round.

'I didn't really say anything, I just told him to be careful. I was OK with it, he liked it, he liked doing it.

'Being totally out didn't do anything for me. I was happy to do things for him.'

She also said Mr Wormleighton had to care for after a mental health crisis and was 'lovely'.

Police attended at 4.45am on May 14 2021 and he was taken to Yeovil District Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The emergency call handler was told: 'I have stabbed the c*** and now he's dying. I just thrown a knife at him because I was angry and now he's f***ing dying. Please get here now.' 

A post-mortem examination concluded the preliminary cause of death as a single stab wound. 

Prosecutor Miss Jo Martin, QC, previously told the court that she had killed her partner with a knife she had taken from the kitchen.

She said: 'There was a single wound to his chest. The large kitchen knife that she used went into his chest to a depth of 10 centimetres.'

Keating immediately rang the emergency services afterwards saying that she had stabbed him.

But Miss Martin said 'that may not be right' as Keating now says 'she threw the knife in his direction, she does not know how he became injured, and she cannot remember what happened'.

The jury now needs to consider how the knife ended up in the father-of-two's chest to a depth of 10cm, whether she threw it or held it in her hand as she stabbed him, Miss Martin added.

At the time of the incident, Keating was 'angry and upset' because Mr Wormleighton was 'trying to leave her', the court heard.

The mother-of-two claims that Mr Wormleighton was violent towards her both in the past and on the night in question which 'frightened her'.

The jury was told that the victim was controlling and coercive towards Keating who the prosecution say may suffer from a mental illness which leads to an inability to maintain self control.

Mr Wormleighton had two previous significant relationships and neither woman said he was violent or controlling but 'caring, generous and a loveable rogue'.

It's also claimed he told friends that Keating was a 'nutter but the sex is really good'. 

Keating was described as being 'funny, entertaining and kind' but 'over the top' in her behaviour and both of them used alcohol and cocaine and suffered with depression.

The trial continues.
