Anne Smith Obituary

SMITH ANNE LOVE SMITH Died suddenly and unexpectedly Wednesday, April 29, 2009 in Dorchester General Hospital in Easton, MD. She was 68 years old. Anne was born on July 9, 1940 in Greenock, Scotland. She moved to Burlington, NJ with her parents, Henry and Flora Love; and her brother, Ian; when she was ten. Later, she became the high school sweetheart of fellow Burlington High student Peter Moore Smith. They married on May 6, 1960. Anne is survived by her husband, Army officer Col. Peter Moore Smith (ret.); and their three children, Julianne Moore, Valerie Wells, and Peter Moore Smith, III; and by her brother Ian Love. She delighted in her grandchildren, Porter, John, Cal, Brett, Liv, and Wolfgang. While raising her three children, Anne attended many schools, including Canal Zone Junior College, Juneau Douglas Junior College, and the University of Nebraska, ultimately graduating Summa Cum Laude with a BA from Briar Cliff College, an M.Ed. from Boston University, and a Masters in Social Work from Catholic University. She especially loved children and family, and her career as a counseling psychologist and social worker was devoted to helping people live happier lives. Anne and her family traveled the world and lived in many places, including New Jersey, North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Panama, Nebraska, Alaska, New York, Virginia, Germany, Washington, DC, and, finally, Maryland. The waters of the Chesapeake reminded her of the coastal town in Scotland where she was from, and so her husband Peter retired in St. Michaels, MD. They lived there together for 19 happy years. Anne found a fulfilling career at Cambridge Hospital, a beautiful home that became her life''s great creative project, and many, many friends. There is much to tell about Anne''s life. She was successful and accomplished. But what is most important to say is that she had a fiercely intelligent mind and a ferociously loving heart. She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed. As per Anne''s wishes, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Talbot County Mental Health Association at 611B Dutchman''s Lane, Easton, MD 21601-3345.
