For the millions moved by Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, here at last is Miep Geis’s own astonishing story.

For more than two years, Miep Gies and her husband helped hide the Franks from the Nazis. Like thousands of unsung heroes of the Holocaust, they risked their lives each day to bring food, news, and emotional support to the victims.

She found the diary and brought the world a message of love and hope.

It seems as if we are never far from Miep’s thoughts...Yours, Anne.

From her own remarkable childhood as a World War I refugee to the moment she places a small, red-orange, checkered diary—Anne’s legacy—in Otto Frank’s hands, Miep Gies remembers her days with simple honesty and shattering clarity. Each page rings with courage and heartbreaking beauty.

Excellent book but "new"arrived damaged
It was very moving. I found myself in tears several times. At times, humanity shows its true measure of the depths its depravity is capable. The Nazis are one example of many of these. However, in those times, it is possible to see the heights to which the human spirit is possible. People like Miep and the many names long forgotten to history of the resistance fighters of WWII are shining examples of this. Their stories need to be told and remembered by future generations, not only so we do not forget their bravery and sacrifice, but also that we dare not allow that which they fought to ever be repeated. Reading this book, at this point in life, when our world and country sit atop the repeat button, it is painful to recognize that, eighty years later, we still have to fight that which is so sinister and similar. The book is amazing and is a must read. However my copy, which I ordered new, came damaged. 1 Star to Amazon 😭

I've read two versions of Anna Frank's diary, the most recent being the Definitive version. Now having read Miep's book, for me, the story has come full circle. Both were difficult and enjoyable to read. This book gives us a different perspective. Anna gave us the experience of being Jewish in hiding and Miep the experience of life on the outside under the Nazis regime. I can only imagine, but I know it was a thousand times worse. As I read this book, in my mind's eyes, I could see and feel what it must have been like for them all. Miep, her husband and all of those that risked their lives to help the Jewish people were angels on earth. It's hard to see God in all of this, but when I think about it, I see His hand in those who risked it all to save others. It is a story of strength, unparalleled courage, hope and the human spirit. It makes you cry, but it also makes you smile. Miep commented on some of Anne's unkind comments. I think people must remember and take into account that Anna was essentially a child that coupled with the conditions under which they were living, one cannot judge those she spoke negatively of based solely on her comments alone. Miep's story was honest and sincere. It's clear that she was an exceptional human being of strong character. We must remember that Anne wasn't the only person in the Annex, there were eight people total and they all matter. Miep was a good soul and I'm so glad that she shared her story. I'm so sorry for the Jewish people; those who endured the "worst" that could happen and those that live with its history.

I loved this book very much & highly recommend it! It is filled with the history of ordinary people who did the extraordinary in the face of atrocious events. Although these people are gone, they live on through the impact their lives left on the world. May we all learn from the lessons of history to make sure they are never again repeated. Grab a copy & read it! It’s absolutely worth the read! Thank you Miep for sharing your story, as well as the stories of others!

First, I should point out that the subtitle of this book is very important. This is not about Anne Frank. It is about Miep Geis, one of the people who helped hide the Franks and the other inhabitants of the attic. That is okay though, because it is a fascinating story. One in which Anne and her family do figure prominently. This is a rare opportunity to read about history from the point of view of someone who actually lived it. From her childhood as a world war 1 refugee, to her time as a guardian of refugees during word war 2, to the bitter sweet feeling of knowing that her life was reaching it's end after having outlived just about everyone else, Miep's story shows how people impact history and how history impacts people. Throughout her life Miep resisted the title of hero, but her story is undeniable proof of how important it is for ordinary people to take action. Sadly 7 of the 8 residents of the attic died after being arrested. However, Miep and the other helpers gave them two more years of life. Two years during which Anne told her story, which, despite it's grim ending, has made her a source of hope and compassion for generations. Now, Miep tells her story, which is every bit as fascinating and thought provoking.

A true companion to The Diary of Anne Frank

Anne Frank Remembered is a book that, written from the perspective of a compassionate and insightful non-jew, can describe the World that the small world of the Secret Annex of Anne Frank was nested in. And the adventures that she describes as Amsterdam becomes Nazified give a true sense of and Terror and anxiety made even more palpable because she knows what all the evils around her means. This is a True Companion book to the girl of the Secret Annex.

It is not easy reading but important reading.
The events covered in this book cover one of the darkest time periods in human history.
But it shows us that everyone’s life is important, beautiful and worth protecting.
