The Conjuring star Joey King recently admitted that she has only seen the original film in the beloved horror franchise, although she has a pretty good reason as to why she has so far skipped out on watching the other installments.

Speaking with Screen Rant to promote her new series, We Were the Lucky Ones, King explained that The Conjuring Universe is too "scary" for her to fully enjoy, noting that she still sees the Witch Bathsheba Sherman's face before going to sleep some nights. "Yeah. Oh my gosh, the first Conjuring, I was in it. I was there for the whole thing. It is so difficult for me to watch. It is so scary. It's not difficult in any other way but that it is so scary. I have such an issue," she said. "But I'm so proud of everybody. I was just so proud of everybody involved, because I think that being part of that was amazing. But yeah, it is too scary for me. [Laughs] Yeah, it is amazing, it is so scary!"

She added, "There's nights where I still see the witch's face. I won't even say her name, because it scares me so. I can barely talk about The Conjuring 1, because I am afraid of things hearing me. But I'm glad everyone likes it!" King portrayed Christine, one of Roger and Carolyn Perron's five daughters, in The Conjuring.

The Conjuring Spawned a Massively Successful Shared Universe

Following the critical and commercial success of the 2013 supernatural horror movie, The Conjuring, Warner Bros., New Line Cinema, and Atomic Monster launched The Conjuring Universe, which so far consists of seven additional films -- Annabelle, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and The Nun II. Collectively, the eight movies have grossed more than $2 billion at the worldwide box office. Warner Bros. is currently in development on two further installments in the horror shared universe: the movie, The Conjuring: Last Rites, and an untitled Conjuring television series.

Michael Chaves to Direct Last Rites

While plot details remain under wraps, Chaves has stated that the forthcoming movie is being viewed internally as the "finale" of The Conjuring Universe. Series creator James Wan is also on board the project as a producer alongside Peter Safran. David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick will pen the script, having previously worked on The Devil Made Me Do It and The Conjuring 2.

Although not officially confirmed yet, Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are expected to reprise their roles as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, respectively. The horror film is expected to start filming this summer in Atlanta, Georgia.
