Located right outside the grounds of King Jan III summer Palace this church is worth peeking into. I really am glad we did as the interior was in excellent condition and the ornate design is incredible. As good as any church I saw in Warsaw!!

When you visit the Wilanow Royal Castle, it is worth to look in this very nice church. It was a family church of Polish nobles, like Potocki. Beautiful decoration inside.

The 19th century church is part of the Wilanowski palace complex and was built for the purpose of worship by the families that owned or inhabited the palace. The massive neoclassicist style underscores the importance of the lords of the manor. Many of them (Potockis and Branickis) are buried in the church (see the niche on the far right).
Perhaps not surprisingly the church is dedicated to Saint Anne, the mother of Mary, grandmother of Jesus. Inside the palace walls the matriarch ruled.

Those visiting the palace at Wilanow will probably visit here as well, though there is not much to see. Perhaps most interesting is the mastodon bone on display which was found when building it, which is somewhat of an oddity for a church. Mostly though it probably gets far more visitors than it is due just because of its location.

We arrived at this lovely church at about 4.30pm on a Monday and we noticed that already the congregation was beginning to arrive. By 5pm when mass started it was practically full and the mass con-celebrated with a number of priests. Proof that the Catholic faith remains strong and is actually practised in this city.
The church facade is gorgeous and it affords a grand vista on approach, particularly against the cloudless azure sky.
Inside we admired the fine nave, bounded by arches and leading to the high altar. This is quietly ornate with a fine holy painting at the centre. The everyday altar is pleasing.
A number of side chapels are embellished with ornate pediments and frescoes resulting in most pleasant spaces. A number of fine statues are to be admired. A grand pulpit is in the traditional position on the side wall.
One of the most unusual displays was that of a mammoth bone excavated from the foundation of church in 1770. First time we have seen such like in the multitudes of churches we have visited.
Surrounding the church are the full array of impressive stations of the cross, dating from the 19th century.
