So for a long time, especially the past two years or so I've read so much about this particular story by Agatha Christie through the reviews of its many adaptations from the much recent in 2015, if not mistaken, to the 70s one. However, out of the many, this one seems to get the better praises by critics and audiences alike.
And yeah, I can see why. While its core concept has been done to exhaustion, it still such a solid and strong premise that no matter what, it always finds the way to and feel as unique. Not gonna lie, I am still waiting to find the movie or story that has set the funny and iconic line "It…
Some random thoughts on this post-war Agatha Christie murder mystery:
~ I'm sure I have seen one of the four remakes entitled "Ten Little Indians" -- probably the 1989 one with Donald Pleasence -- but for the life of me I could hardly remember a thing. Must have been something my wife forced me to watch.
~ This is the first film I have ever seen by director René Clair, and although it's hardly indicative of the bulk of his work, I enjoyed it enough to want to see some of his avant-garde films.
~ Great cast full of Oscar winners and nominees, including Barry Fitzgerald, Walter Huston, Judith Anderson, Roland Young and Mischa Auer.

Despite my fondness for Agatha Christie and country-house mysteries, I had seen And Then There Were None only once, having vague memories of being disappointed. On this second viewing, I have clearer memories of disappointment.
Director Rene Clair doesn’t seem very interested in the mystery aspect of Christie’s plot, eschewing suspense for comedy, and nothing’s flatter than unfunny comedy. Clair encourages most of the cast to overact, with Mischa Auer, Barry Fitzgerald, and Walter Huston all having awkward moments and Chateau Noir favorite Roland Young giving his worst performance I’ve seen. An ever so slightly silly murder mystery. My perfectly poisoned cup of tea. Actually kept me guessing till the very end. Wonderful atmosphere and snappy dialogue. Simple and oh so satisfying.
