      Critics Consensus

And So It Goes aims for comedy, but with two talented stars stuck in a half-hearted effort from a once-mighty filmmaker, it ends in unintentional tragedy.

Steve G They tried to make a cute, funny movie but it seemed contrived and lacked chemistry. The 10 year old girl was good. Almost like two actors, late in their careers, trying to create the same kind of interaction they had when they were younger, but just weren't into it. It did get better near the end, but it wasn't an easy ride. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/29/24 Full Review Avalon T Entertaining and well acted. Although it is predictable it is an enjoyable movie- a good way to soend an evening. Pleasant feel good movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/10/24 Full Review Kate M This is a movie about what happens when life outlives love. It's sweet and simple and sometimes that's just right. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/25/23 Full Review DJ London A preposterous story told in the broadest strokes. Even the talented stars cannot save it and the whole thing left me wondering how on earth they agreed to appear in it but hey, if it passed my time I guess it did the same for them... Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/20/23 Full Review Glenyse J In spite of curmudgerly reviews, I did not find this movie "depressing" or "dreadful". On the contrary, for me, it was a lighthearted, fun movie, that made me laugh out loud at numerous hilarious scenes. Yes, Michael Douglas was creepy as usual, and Diane Keaton was weepy as usual, but that just added to the fun for me. Yes, Douglas was gross at times, but isn't he always? And yes, it was insulting at times, but lighten up, people, stop being so fragile, and get a funny-bone. The movie was cute and fun, in my opinion. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review KEVIN C Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton both play characters who've lost their spouses and develop a friendship living next to each other. Directed by Rob Reiner, this is a good rom-com-drama. The leads, while not in their prime, still wield enough star power and charisma to make even a formulaic movie like this to greater heights. I enjoyed this. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/16/22 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald Douglas and Keaton do just as well with the romantic angle, mostly because he's so adept at dispelling any whiff of mawkishness. Oren's essential orneriness remains, no matter what, and the film turns out to be a lot of fun because of him. Rated: 3/5 Aug 11, 2014 Full Review David Stratton At the Movies (Australia) Whatever happened to Rob Reiner?... [He] seems utterly disengaged as he ploddingly assembles a film whose potential is never realised. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 8, 2014 Full Review James Berardinelli ReelViews Everything about the movie is as uninspired as the title. Rated: 2.5/4 Jul 26, 2014 Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse About as interesting as a Blue Plate Special when it could be, considering the talent involved, as richly textured as a fine, aged wine. Rated: 2/5 Feb 1, 2021 Full Review Richard Propes TheIndependentCritic.com And So It Goes is a tone deaf As Good As It Gets wannabe. Rated: 1.0/4.0 Sep 2, 2020 Full Review Alexandra MacAaron Women's Voices for Change Keaton is earnest, sentimental, a little goofy. But the flibbertigibbet routine is getting tired. Meanwhile, Douglas chews the scenery as a modern-day Ebenezer Scrooge. The movie is bland at best, more often boring (and, at times, offensive). Rated: 3/10 Dec 3, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews
