DEEPLY RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS

JUNE 14TH | 6:00PM – 8:00PM | TBD

The man behind one of Harvard Business School’s most popular courses, Geoffrey Jones, will talk about his latest book - Deeply Responsible Business – which examines leaders who put values alongside profits to showcase the challenges and upside of deeply responsible business.

It provides a historical perspective on the social responsibility of business, going back to the Quaker capitalism of George Cadbury and the worker solidarity of Edward Filene and carrying us through to impact investing and the B-corps. Jones profiles exemplary business leaders from around the world who combined profits with social purpose to confront inequality, inner-city blight, and ecological degradation, while navigating restrictive laws and authoritarian regimes.

MEMBER HOSTED EVENTS COMING UP

THE CUTTING EDGE: LAWRENCE CATHOLIC ACADEMY

JUNE 5TH | 6:15PM | CLUBHOUSE

The hosts of this private event have made a limited number of seats available for fellow Club members. The purpose of the discussion is to honestly address issues surrounding urban poverty and education, with Lawrence Catholic Academy, located in the City of Lawrence, Massachusetts. All of the school’s students, currently 450, receive federally funded free breakfast and lunch, after-school tutoring and programming on school days.

Moderated by Harvard Graduate School of Education Dean Long, legendary investor Peter Lynch will discuss with Rev. Paul O’Brien commonly misunderstood challenges faced by students living below the poverty line. Rev. O’Brien will offer insights into how Lawrence Catholic Academy educates, guides and supports its students and helps create a path for them to the middle class. Mr. Lynch will share why the education of children from impoverished urban families matters deeply, why early childhood education in particular is essential, and why supporting schools such as LCA is “one of the best investments I can think of.”

To register, please email Marlene and Duncan O’Brien at marleneobrien99@gmail.com.

QIFLOW SUMMER FIRE SERIES

Summer is time for the QiFlow exercises to change to the QiFlow FIRE series:

Summer is the time for expansion. This period is associated with the Fire Element and the energy system of the heart + small intestine. The light of the radiant sun is most vibrant and the natural world is at its peak of growth. To harness and align with this incredible energy, the summer flow incorporates exercises to uplift, energize and offers a deep connection to the natural world. Because heat and fire are associated with summer, the exercises are designed to cool and calm the heart energy, mindfully balancing the body’s need to over-expend.

PICKLEBALL COURTS AT HCB

Looking for an alternative fitness option this summer that is both fun and improves your athleticism? Take advantage of our pickleball program located in the squash courts. Both athletic and non-athletic members are eligible to rent the pickleball courts, nets and equipment. Invite your family and friends for pick-up matches that are leisure or competitive. Contact Valerie Phillips to reserve your court vphillips@harvardclub.com. Athletic members can use the Club Locker app to make reservations.
