      Critics Consensus

Riotously funny and impeccably cast, American Hustle compensates for its flaws with unbridled energy and some of David O. Russell's most irrepressibly vibrant direction.

Shioka O High-budgeted comedy. I like con films and I liked the soundtrack and the actors. It's entertaining too. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/17/24 Full Review Cinephile F This film was awesome. I love movie set in the 70s. Much better than films made in 2023, in 2024! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/10/24 Full Review Miriam G This was a painfully boring movie composed of very talented actors. It's not worth your time Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/24 Full Review Krystof H Interesting to say at least Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/24 Full Review Test T I watched this on DVD recently, and enjoyed every minute of it. The attraction of the film is in the depth and relatability of the characters it presents. The cast are first rate performers, and grabed my attention in every scene. The experience is so absorbing it's like I became part of the story and was living amongst them. The late 70's timeline also works remarkably well, and despite the complexities of the hustle, times are simpler and uncluttered without our contemporary technology. In general, I thought the plot was very good, but I found the FBI agent a little too OTT to be believable, although enjoyable and amusing. There were some cut scenes on the DVD, two of which show musical home karaoke type scenes performed by Jennifer Lawrence which were quite entertaining, if a little too long! Over all I think this is a good movie and worthy of strong recommendation. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/29/23 Full Review Ulli M this film is awful. it is really pretentious Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Candice Frederick Reel Talk Online It's enjoyable and fun to watch, but just barely touches the surface of its own narrative. Rated: B- Sep 6, 2017 Full Review Larushka Ivan-Zadeh metro.co.uk It's a sly film that slips through your fingers, leaving the glitter of great performances, but one you'll be hustling to watch again. Rated: 4/5 Sep 6, 2017 Full Review Jason Bailey Flavorwire A movie as smart as 'American Hustle' knows that those tactile pleasures only matter if they're attached to some kind of emotional resonance. Jun 18, 2016 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies “American Hustle” is more of a showcase of great actors than it is great storytelling, but it still keeps you glued to the screen as you watch them do their work. Rated: 4/5 Aug 19, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Russell manages to make these characters at once despicable and loveable, complicated and weighty, none of them irredeemable, each of them incurably watchable. Rated: 4/4 Aug 19, 2022 Full Review Cody Dericks Next Best Picture It's unconventional in its uneasy structure, but the rewards for sticking with it are plentiful.
