The American Academy of Dramatic Arts - New York Campus is a great institution overall. The strongest part of the Academy is it’s curriculum and academics. It is a conservatory style program, meaning it is fast-paced and intense in it’s academics. I have found all of my professors at the Academy to be highly skilled and professionally trained actors, who are still involved in the industry currently. One change I would like to see from the Academy is the level of organization within the administration of the school. I have found the Administration is a bit disorganized. Administration tends to share important information very last minute, which causes issues internally with both the student body and the faculty. I have found it to be a common stressor among most of the student body at the Academy, and would like to see a higher level of organization within it. The student-life at the Academy is strong, with events that our catered very specifically to the student body.
The American Academy of Dramatic Arts taught me a lot about acting and I do believe that my time there was valuable. However, there are a few professors who felt rude at times. You get to meet a lot of people and make so many connections at the Academy and I do think it's worth it do go. You just have to deal with some rude teachers but that's nothing too hard. Also, we all love Susan Pilar <3
The teachers really push you to be the absolute best actor you can be. They teach you to be truthful and play moment go moment. I’m only in my first term, but I’ve already learned so much and feel I’ve improved since I’ve gotten here. Frequent feedback is given, which helps you understand what you should focus more on. The Academy does a great job at including multiple acting methods in their curriculum, as well as preparing you for a career on both stage and screen. I look forward to the rest of my time here!
