Ian Fleming is said to have based a character on
Amaryllis Fleming, his illegitimate
cellist half-sister. The character of Kara Milovy played by
Maryam d'Abo in
the film
The Living Daylights (1987) is suggested by the golden-haired cellist in the
original
Ian Fleming short story "The Living Daylights". This was published
in the "Octopussy" James Bond short story collection. The sniper
sequence in this movie is basically an in toto adaptation of the short
story. The story reads: "There was something almost indecent in the
idea of that bulbous, ungainly instrument between her splayed thighs.
Of couse Suggia had managed to look elegant, and so did that girl
Amaryllis somebody.".
