      Critics Consensus

Despite a likable cast, Always Woodstock's lightweight plot and grating lack of romantic tension never engage.

R A It was a movie that you need. This is old school romance and written for adults not children. It's a story about making it, eating crow and love and the success that comes with love. Miller played her part and did it well. I felt her pain and her joy. Made me wish I was young again. If you have a song deep inside, this is a slow raining day movie for you. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/27/23 Full Review Audience Member The movie relies too much on voiceover to set the stage, fill in crucial backstory and explain the protagonist's state of mind — all things that the visuals and action should convey. Sex and swearing notwithstanding, the movie plays like an ultra-lightweight sitcom pilot, with Allison Miller and James Wolk as the adorably embattled soul mates who flirt and squabble and second-guess each other and themselves. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Suckered for cheesy love stories. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review farah r Lame plot and cheesy acting, results in a terribly bland movie. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member gr8 cast kept this indy rom-com going, I liked this one. Also stars Rumor Willis, Demi & Bruce's daughter, I remember when she was born! Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is so bad. What was Katy Sagal doing in there? I'm not sure how it falls into the category of romantic comedy when there is nothing comedic about it. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Sheri Linden Hollywood Reporter Sex and swearing notwithstanding, the movie plays like an ultra-lightweight sitcom pilot, with Allison Miller and James Wolk as the adorably embattled soul mates who flirt and squabble and second-guess each other and themselves. Apr 29, 2020 Full Review Dennis Harvey Variety Even by its genre's comfort-food standards, this movie feels blandly circumscribed, almost child-proofed, as if any sharper reality or wit might be harmful to the intended audience. Nov 16, 2014 Full Review Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times Unfortunately, Merson clutters her sometimes soulful, sensitive story with too many formulaic contrivances to impede Catherine's personal and professional progress. Nov 13, 2014 Full Review Adam Patterson Film Pulse This is an insufferable movie that telegraphs everything from its opening minutes, and does nothing to elevate the genre or even tell an interesting story. Apr 29, 2020 Full Review Mark Jackson Epoch Times Jason Ritter's the best thing about the film, genuinely funny as a vapid but well-meaning fool-actor. His hysterically crying, post-sex monologues are hilarious. Rated: 2/5 Jun 13, 2016 Full Review Jared Mobarak The Film Stage Catherine's journey towards acknowledging she's no better than any of the people she silently screams at in frustrated rage becomes a pit of quicksand.
