Beautiful building. Very grand and spectacular. Surrounding is nice and surrounded by high rise buildings. Excellent to walk around the area nice to take photos especially on the front of the building to capture the essence.

The old opera house is an impressive building and the outer of the building was very attractive. I went there outside have a look however I cannot comment for the inside as due to COVID-19 entrance was controlled or restricted. In a next trip..

The old Opera House was basically destroyed during the war, but has risen Phoenix like with a superb warm and great sounding interior. Very close to our hotel, a free evening for us in the City coincided with an excellent concert by the Frankfurt Radio Orchestra, which was an unexpected musical treat for us. The quality of the orchestra and soloist could not be faulted and we would certainly visit again.

The Alter Oper is a must see attraction to watch one of their events. The building in itself has most of the interior built as a modern multipurpose complex with concert halls and a congress center.

Originally this Opera House was constructed in the late 1800s. It was destroyed in 1944, and didn't reopen until 1981. Evidently the rebuilding was controversial because some people wanted to rebuild it exactly as it had been, while others wanted to build in a modern style. In the end, the exterior and parts of the interior were rebuilt to look exactly like the original building.
They did a great job. It doesn't have that fake look that new buildings often have when they are imitating older styles. Even if you don't have time to go inside or see a concert there, it's in a central location and worth a walk by if you're in the area. Fressgass, a pedestrian street filled with places to eat, connects the Alte Oper to the Hauptwache.

Classic exterior with a phenomenal new interior rebuilt after the war damage. Very much enjoyed a social evening in the restaurant. Great location.

I was here during the Luminale and the light show projected onto the facade of the Alte Oper was the best I have ever seen. It was very moving and despite the bitter cold I stayed to watch the whole thing. Well done.

Me and my buddy will be coming through there on our way to Windhoek Namibia. We are spending the day here on July, 3 and heard there was a fest going on then. Does anybody know if there's any truth to this? Alte Oper Fest??? Thanks, JRV

Hi John
I see others have answered. I thought I saw some publicity about it while I was in Frankfurt. Sounds like it will be a wonderful few days. Have fun and safe travels.

Is there any way I can pick the ticket up at the location? It would be a waste to have it shipped home for a price that is more than the actual price of the ticket...

Loraine, which concert are you going to? At least there is a "Abendkasse" which opens 1 hour before each concert where you can purchase last minute tickets. Should be possible to deposit already paid tickets there as well... Regards, Ralf

Hi! If the concert is inside the opera, then I would definitely recommend wearing something chic. Not necessarily a tie, but a shirt and blazer will do! Hope I could help. Have fun at the concert!
