We headed up the hill to go into the cathedral, and then spotted his lovely gem and had a good look around it. And it's definitely interesting and gives a great insight into times before ours. So worth a visit!

This place is like stepping back in time. I believe that a few scenes from the movie, 'The Three Musketeers ', were filmed here in the courtyard. There is a small souvenir shop just inside and public toilets nearby. Ive visited a few times now but have never been inside, something I must do next year when I return.

This is not only one of the older parts of the whole Cathedral area but also houses a very interesting and substantial museum with many different areas that are all well worth exploring.

The highlights for me where the first area of the relationship between Bamberg and the rivers surrounding it and the second most interesting part was the Jewish History of Bamberg - a very thoughtful exhibition indeed. I spent about 3 hours in here - so bring time....

Entry price is EUR8 for adults or EUR10 if you want to buy a combi ticket for all 3 museums up here (which I did).

The only reason why I do not give this a full Excellent is that I would have wished a bit more explanation about the the buildings themselves and the stage that was built right in the middle might be a good idea for a location but it kinda destroys the whole "look" .

The Old Court is a large cobbled courtyard right alongside the Cathedral and a former Fort. It’s origins are over 1000 years old, with many transformations since. It is nicely restored and part of it is dedicated to a City Museum. The WC here is payable!

Alte Hofhsltung is right next door to the Residenz on the top of the hill. Worth popping in and walking around before you walk down to the Rose Gardens. I love architecture so would stare for hours . If you have time pop into the museum . Do be warned cobble stones are all around so take care or wear walking shoes

This spot in a place of the true heritage of one of the most significant centers of Catholic Bavaria is not to be taken lightly. This area dates back to the findings of the Dom. Though not as flashy as the Dom or the Rose 🌹 Garden, it is as histoic. Enjoy!

This is one of the highlights of the old town of Bamberg. There were spectacular balconies full of red flowers and the tour told us that this was the place where the "Three musketeer" was filmed( the one with Orlando Bloom)

Went in here lovely court yard. A scene from the movie The Three Musketeers was shot at this location. Very nice with all the window planter boxes.
Also the public toilets are here.

The earlier imperial residence is part of the cathedral complex. It also contains a public toilet, which can be important to tourists making the climb to the Dom District. The exterior is pure medieval design. I would be interested to learn if interiors have also been restored. There are many nice photo opportunities available.

My tourbook describes this attraction as follows:
Enter the Reiche Tor, a richly ornamented gate leading into the Alte Hofhaltung (Old Imperial Court), one of the most echanting sights in Bamberg. The grandiose quiet inner courtyard is surrounded by half timbered buildings and the remains fo the old Diet Hall, which was used as the seat of local government for over 500 years after 1085. One wing now houses the history museum of Bamberg and Franconia.
It's location makes it easy to visit during any tour of the major attractions in Bamberg, particularly the Dom and Neue Residenz.
