As a pretty major fan of both Sinbad and "Boy Meets World", it's more than a little bizarre I'm just discovering Aliens for Breakfast now, nearly thirty years after it aired on ABC.
After some extensive research (i.e. multiple Google searches), I've figured out that this hour-long television movie was in fact created for an infrequent, sporadic program called Ronald McDonald's Family Theater that the fast food giant launched Christmas 1991 with an unrelated animated holiday special. That broadcast inspired a children's television watchdog group to lodge a complaint with the FCC over its line-blurring "advertainment."
Aliens apparently aired just once, on the night of Saturday, January 28, 1995. Having just watched it now, the '90s kid inside me loved…
Sinbad + Ben Savage, a tasty 90s combo. In this one Sinbad dresses up in a green jumpsuit, red face paint, and antlers, and plays a wisecracking, forgetful alien who comes to warn Ben that one of his classmates is actually an evil alien. Ben's mom is played by Teri Garr, from Young Frankenstein and Mr. Mom, and WOW they really gave her the perfect 90s mom makeover. Shelley Duvall also makes a cameo as one of Ben's teachers, perhaps uncredited?? It's not listed on IMDB, you slackers!
This is so goofy all the way through, so it goes by rather quickly, especially since it's only 45 minutes long. Believe it or not, there are actually a few seconds of…
So apparently every kid in 1994 was obsessed with McDonalds, and only ever wanted McDonalds, and all their future goals were entirely centered around eating McDonalds every day.
a silly, goofy kids comedy/scifi with sinbad playing a tiny alien
harmless and occasionally funny
very, very 90's
Goofy 90's sci-fi cheese with a wholesome message and surprise cameo from Shelley Duvall. All those old McDonald's commercials that played throughout really added to the nostalgic charm.
Definitely one of the oddest and weirdest little movies I have ever seen, Aliens for Breakfast benefits from a 90's charm, short running time, likeable characters and effects that are better than expected from a TV movie from the 90's aimed for kids.
the mcdonald’s commercials in the youtube version I watched really added to the 90s ambience!!!!
The version of this I watched on YouTube had commercials from the mid 90s and it genuinely made it better.
