The comedian grilled the politician on 'class'

For the past two decades, Ali G has interviewed almost every politician and celebrity there is. Often making them look like proper bell***s.

One of his bizarre encounters that has resurfaced recently is his chat with Jacob Rees-Mogg from back in 1999:

Ali G (Sacha Baron Cohen) sat down with the then young politician to discuss the issue of 'class'.

For those of you who've never heard of him, the Tory MP is a very firm member of the aristocracy, having been educated at some of the most elite private schools in the country, such as Eton.

In a clip from the 11 O'Clock Show interview that's been shared on YouTube, Ali G kicks things off by asking 'Lord' Rees-Mogg for a definition of class.

But before he can get going, Rees-Mogg takes the opportunity to correct him on one thing.

"It's very kind of you to the nobility, but, of course, I'm not, my father is Lord Rees-Mogg, I'm just a commoner like everybody else," he admits.

So gracious.

Now, back to the question. What is class?

"Class is how other people perceive individuals to be," Rees-Mogg explains.

If you're familiar with Ali G's work, you'll know that it's never been quite at the forefront when it comes to political correctness.

His next question is a perfect example of that, when the comedian uses an incredibly offensive word used to describe people from Pakistan.

Brushing it off, Ree-Mogg explains that where a person comes from has nothing to do with their social status.

Undeterred, Ali G asks whether someone is upper class if they have a swimming pool?

"I think that's a a bizarre definition of class," replies Rees-Mogg.

Upping the stakes, the comedian asks: "What if they had a the swimming pool made of gold that was filled with champagne and not that cheap stuff?"

The comedian tried on one of Rees-Mogg's top hats.

Recalling his history lessons, Rees-Mogg suggest he's referring to someone like Cleopatra, who was famed for bathing in 'asses' milk'.

Now, this is a red rag to a bull for Ali G, who looks pretty confused, saying: "Ass milk? B***y milk?"

The exasperated MP replies: "No, no, no. Donkeys'."

Carrying on with his investigation into the topic, Ali G asks what would happen if he had sex with the 'daughter of a lord' or if Rees-Mogg got with his sister. Which class would their children be?

Rees-Mogg brands the suggestion 'ridiculous' and refuses to answer.

Concluding their chat, Ali G tries on Rees-Mogg's top hat and invites him down to see the 'Staines Massive'.

To which he replies: "Would be a pleasure."

I wonder if he ever took him up on the offer.
