Two goats combining their talent
Alfredo is a collaboration album between rapper Freddie Gibbs and producer The Alchemist. Both artists are already very talented on their own, but their skills combined together create this amazing record.
Alfredo demonstrates a refreshing mix of modern gangster rap and oldschool boom bap. The record is notably inspired by the iconic movie "The Godfather" due to its reoccuring mafia and mob life references.
From a lyrical point of view this project is impressive, but let's not disregard Alchemist's instrumentals and amazing samples. He probably is my favourite rap producer of all time and Alchemist really showed his pure talent on this album.
Overall, I recommend Alfredo to anyone interesting in conscious rap, boom bap or gangster rap.

Production is lush and incredibly high quality. Freddie is a great rapper, but never has much interesting to say with such skill. The overall skill, aesthetic and style of the album makes up for it however. The features kill it too. 8/10.

On this album we get Freddie Gibbs sounding very laid back, and The Alchemist also strongly contributes to this atmosphere with the very diverse, yet focused group of beats on this record. I love how elegant everything feels on this album as well, some of the beats even feel luxurious and rich to a certain degree. None of the guest features on this record disappoint at all, my favorite is either Tyler, who brings a very relaxed and witty vibe to the track, or Rick Ross, who displays some surprisingly good chemistry with Freddie Gibbs and makes the transition between them feel seamless. Some of The Alchemist’s most heavenly and transcendent beats ever land on tracks like Scottie Beam, Baby $Hit, and Skinny Suge. This is definitely one of the most consistent hip hop albums to come out in the year 2020

When I came into this record, I had reasonably high expactations, afterall, I had just listened to Piñata, an amazing record, with incredible production, amazing chorus' and sampling, and outstanding perfomance by Freddie Gibbs with his enthralling flow and rhyme scheme. When I finished listening to Alfredo, I can confidently say my expectations were not met.
This album feels like there is something missing, specially in the production part. The songs feel like they are missing instruments, maybe it's the chorus, maybe it's the drums, but something is definitively off. If I were to give a shot on what is missing, its all those factors combined with very low volume beats and chorus', which basically leaves raw rapping, which manny find appealing, but I do not. The first few songs are a prime example of this lack of "spice", being in my opinion the worst songs in the whole album, which shouldn't be what an artist wants.
The power of a good intro is very underappreciated, mainly for the fact intros are your first impressions, and your first impression is the defining factor to see if you continue listening to that record, or just throw it away completely, something I almost did, in fact, I only continued out of pure hope for Freddie's rap to get better.
Another point is that Freddie Gibbs doesn't do his best, let's take into comparison his 2014 record, Piñata, and notice how he puts effort to make very intresting rhyme schemes and to create a amazing flow, in Alfredo, however, it seems he's rhyming while he's sleepy in most of the songs. I understand if you like that, but it's not in my style.
Starting from the third song, the album starts to heat up and overall gets better, but still flawed. I really didn't vibe with the production of this album, but Freddie still had a perfomance intresting enough to keep me entretained, even though it's not his best. Features sometimes overshine Gibbs, like in Something To Rap About, where Tyler, The Creator did an amazing perfomance, a very consistent perfomance, reminiscent from his IGOR record, with a very chill and intresting flow and rhymes. I could say that about most of the features, they were very well chosen I would say.
To sum up, unlike it seems, I didn't hate the album, it had it's few share of moments, but overall, I can't just overlook it's flaws and think it's perfect. I recommend it to Freddie and Alchimist fans, but definively not for everybody

Two Legends Come Togther In An Unexpected Way
"The SWAT team might machine gun or grenade me down, and if they do, tell my people just hold my babies down."
Alfredo is a beautiful album that is surprisingly laid back album for Freddie Gibbs, but there's no complaining here. As the album is inspired by The Godfather, there's quite a bit about family, both from Freddie Gibbs throughout the album and Conway on Babies & Fools. The calming atmosphere provides an incredible soundtrack for a summer afternoon, but, of course, the quality remains all year.

Freddie Gibbs and The Alchemist deliver some fresh hip hop.
This is a quality hip hop record. Freddie's top-tier lyricism and flows, coupled with The Alchemist's outstanding production, are consistently impressive and entertaining. Features from the likes of Tyler, the Creator, Rick Ross, and Benny the Butcher enhance the overall calibre and keep things exciting. This record gives off old-school vibes yet sounds fresh and polished - a sound that is extremely sought-out in the modern hip hop industry.
This is a great listen - I highly recommend it!
