A year and a half after the renovations were finished, the historic centre of Évora's former Salão Central Eborense Cinema Theatre, which had been shuttered for more than 30 years, is scheduled to reopen at the end of May. Carlos Pinto de Sá, the mayor of Évora has recalled that a €2.5 million investment was needed for the space's requalification which has been shuttered since the late 1980s.

The transformation station (PT) that will feed the building is being built by E-Redes, formerly known as ‘EDP Distribuição’, and although the project was finished about a year and a half ago, the space has not yet opened. As the mayor has explained, “It is finally built and the period of testing the equipment is underway, already with the PT”. Although the expected opening time is around the end of May, the specific day, “has not yet been defined”, as “testing of the equipment is still taking place and it is necessary to be sure that everything is working properly”.

“We complained, over time, and they argued with the lack of materials and the difficulty of finding a contractor”, Carlos has argued, considering the explanations given by E-Redes “as plausible”. As he added, “We also feel some of these situations, a lack of materials and contractors, and, therefore, we don't really have any material to rely on to ask for any other response from the company”.

Regarding the Eborense Central Hall, the mayor mentioned that the renovation, which started in 2020 and received 70 percent of its total cost (€2.5 million) from European funds, is intended to serve as a multifunctional venue for culture, business and sports events. The century-old hall was slowly abandoned, and around the end of the 1980s, it was officially closed, ending up being bought by the city council in 1996.
