It's an extremely rare and old-fashioned name. If you find someone called Avdotya (Авдотья) nowadays, chances are you're in a nearly abandoned village 200 kilometres from the nearest city and the person is 85 years old.
Since it's a really old name, and the fact that Ursus is based on Russia during the tsars' reign (but with Gopniks, the Bratva, and magic rock cancer), it makes sense to me.
Also, i want to look for a partially abandoned ursine village 200 kilometers from the nearest Nomadic city, just to meet a 85 years old Hippogryph with that name. Why not?
So, similar to a name like Ethel in English?
Yeah, pretty much. I guess these 2 associate with the roughly same time period. Fun fact tho while Ethel is something "noble" (also quite literally) Avdotya is the opposite being a name you'd expect for a commoner/peasant. As someone who speaks Russian when I hear Avdotya I think about Russian serfdom and the times of monarchy. Even if we speak about people who are 50-60 years old it is already hard to find someone named Avdotya. This one carries the charm of the 19th/early 20th century.
All I hear you say is that we should defy the system and name our daughters Avdotya.
Very true, my grandmother's older sister is named Avdotya. I'm not sure there is anyone under the age of 60 in Russia with that name anymore.
Could ask how to say that name?
My best guess is ah-v-dot-ye-uh (Idk but thats the sound i make trying to read this)
Have you tried Google Translate? It can pronounce most languages including russian. Also other translation services do the same, but I personally use the one from Google.
It can but sometimes its off. My default was just to ask the person who seems to speak it. You are right that is an option
It is pronounced this way: avdot'ya where ' means the sound before this sign is soft. Also the order of name, surname and patronymic seems wrong. The right one is "Ivanovna Avdotya Nikolaevna". This order is a conventional way.
I probably have met people named like this. I don't like the name and those people. And the era they lived most of their lives.
First Rosa (Natalya Andreyevna Rostova), then the current emperor/tsar of Ursus (Fyodor Vladimirovich), and now the pink woof.
The ursine names can be beautiful.
HG pulled really old fashioned name this time. I don't think I have seen anyone rocking Avdotiya.
Come to think of it Rosa is also bit of old school name.
A shame, its a very pretty name
No. Natalya is common name in Russia. Can confirm this cuz I'm Russian myself.
Forgot it's her codename.
You're just into old-fashioned Russian noble names. Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova. Alexandra Fedorovna. Catherine Alekseyevna (you might know her as Catherine the Great, rumored Kuranta-enjoyer). So on.
Indeed.
If only I could learn Yelena's and Sonya's real name, damn it...
Yelena probably is her real name, or at least as much of it as she remembers.
Ah, I forgot to mention "full" name.
Considering how Rosa’s real name is a War and Peace reference I was really excited to see Pozy’s real name. Unfortunately Ivanov is such a common surname that’s it’s kinda hard to know if it’s a reference to anything.
Theres iirc a note that its fake. Something akin to 'Rhodes Island was unable to get her real surname'
EDIT: Maybe its referring to 'we just know her firstname' but then why this screenshot.
That’s in reference to Pozy giving Rhodes Island “Avdotya Razorpen” (the name she assumed while living with the Durin) as her name when she joined.
Ahh, got it.
The closest reference I found, is probably of Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanova, She is the daughter of The Russian Empire's last tsar, whose entire family got killed in the Bolshevik uprising, the thing about anastasia is that there are rumors that she survived(which got proven wrong later). But they seem to be working from that premise that she survived for pozy
Say it three times fast
it three times fast
ititit
Hehe tit
very fitting flair
Does pozy stab people with pens?
What do you think her typewriter shoots?
Durin grade pens
Like John Wick (even though he used a pencil, but still)?
Probably not.
Of course not. She's much more civilized than that. She only uses the blood of the peasants as ink like a proper noble.
Cmon why does she have a crossbow for?
Definitely stab. Close and personal.
I like how she called herself 'razorpen' like
Well she obviously chose that one to fit in with the Durins
Авдотья Николевна Иванова beautiful name
and don't forget the next rate-up, Fran Stalinofskivitchdavitovichski
What about the Limited 6* Operator Ivan Ivanovich Ivanovsky?
John, for short
Wasn't his short name Dave?
I thought it was Ben, or is it Bòn?. I also heard he's a good boy.
"Ivan Ivanovich Ivanov" more accurate.
I kept reading/calling her Avoid-tya everytime it came up
I read this in a Russian accent and my water turned into vodka.
Is it just me or did they take lots of inspiration from Anastasia Nikolaevna Romanov for her character? My crackpot theory is that they looked at Anastasia's story and the myths about her survival of the revolution but couldn't blatantly name her like that so they took Russian names that are "close" but not too close to name her and went ham with her backstory of lucky survival in an underground ideal city.
Anastasia Nikoláyevna Románova
Coincidence? I DON'T BELIEVE IT
Nah, if she had surname? Sure.
Nikolai is completely normal name.
If you read her files it's totally intentional, Pozy has a lot of the Anastasia legend in her lore
It's highly implied she's the daugther of a 'removed' king yes
Pozy's family was killed in a political conspiracy within the ursine nobility. And the wiki suggests that her middle name was taken from Olga Nikolayevna, tsar Nicolas II's eldest daughter, which could relate to Pozy's status as a political victim (And with Ursus being based on Russia during the age of the tsars, with Fyodor Vladimirovich being most likely based on the aforementioned Nicolas II).
And since Pozy is a political victim, plus the fact that she mentioned that they sent assasins to hunt her down, it's implied that at least an Emperor's Blade was tasked with tracking her. If that's the case, then consider her a lucky lass.
Middle name of all 4 sisters is Nikolayevna, while Prince Alexei is Nikolayevich
So she could be a reference to Anastasia
Welp…lady got sheltered by the Durins so…she’s still ok
even more interesting is that the abbreviation of her name is ANI which doesn't mean anything
Beautiful indeed. And nice accent to match.
Now, just wait for Natalya and Sonya...
Rosa's real name is Natalya
What I meant was their EN voicelines. I hope they'll be just like Istina's. Thick Ursus accent.
It really is a beautiful name. Sometimes i wish we once again put such names in use. Love my name, but it's a bit funny, when you have three people with the same name in class
Very attractive name for me since I'm not familiar to Russian habit of naming.
Still not gonna beat
Mihaly Dumitru Margareta Corneliu Leopold Blanca Karol Aeon Ignatius Raphael Maria Niketas A. Shilage
Smh
I was waiting for somebody to bring this up.
Still waiting for some ursus whose name is VladPut
Авдотья, very uncommon name, pretty annoying to pronounce, airborn snow fits her better
For me it sounds too soviet, so I'd just call her Pozyomka. Those names like Zoya, Avdotya, Lyuda etc sound disgusting to me because they are connected to the USSR. I was born after communism fell where I live, but the consequences still can be clearly seen. Basically I hate everything about the USSR except the space program and other scientifical stuff.
Except none of those names originated in the USSR, those names were far more common during the Russian Empire (Which was toppled by the Bolsheviks and replaced with the USSR).
In fact, most usage of such names during the time of the Soviets was likely just a holdover from people who were born before the Revolution.
Well, I can't say I hate the Russian Empire, but there is nothing to like about it either. Anyway those names weren't uncommon in the USSR.
Okay grampa, it's time for your medicine.
