This museum took us by surprise, lots of Picassos, Monet and many other impressionists. Many other styles to whet your appetite if you’re an art lover. We particularly appreciated the description of each artists work and his changes in style. One of the best we have visited.

You are spoiled for choice of museums in Vienna and can’t possibly visit them all in just the one trip but, wherever you do, don’t miss this one. It stands out, not only for quantity but for quality. There are huge collections of Picasso, Monet, Schiller and so many others. There are large galleries spread over 3 floors, mostly displaying but with some other pieces. There is an audio guide available in several languages and German and English notes by each exhibit. One floor is still laid out as a palace and the ticket includes a tour of these apartments

I have seen so many art museums in my life that seeing another one on a trip to Europe is not the highest priority. In fact, it’s a pretty low priority. What I read about it did not make me enthusiastic. I only went because it was close to other things we were going to see that day and we could have lunch in the restaurant there. Surprise. Surprise. It was great, fabulous. Not only were their collections on display excellent, but the exhibitions were of a very high quality, particularly the large, diverse Picasso one, which my wife, not a big Picasso fan, found quite good. There was a modern art exhibit by Alex Katz, an artist I had never heard of. Now normally I would rather have root canal than see a modern art exhibition, but we had a little time before they closed and we said what the hell. Good choice. It was good. Very good. His work was interesting and showed creativity, as well as talent. How refreshing. They also had rooms, “State Rooms” still set up as if the palace were operational, which were lovely, better than many other palaces we saw on this trip that were not great museums, as well. The icing on the cake was an expensive, but excellent lunch in nice surroundings with great service. It was so good that we returned a couple of days later for a repeat performance. While not up to the extraordinarily high standards of the first meal, it was still very good. What was originally intended to be at most a two hour stay at the Albertina stretched the entire day and I was completely content. It was one of the best days on a 75 day trip. That says a lot.

This art gallery is very good. A huge selection of exhibits, with a real variety of things to look at. As is often the case in Vienna the building itself is just as beautiful as whats inside. Overall a great way to spend an afternoon.

We enjoyed visiting this art museum, located on four floors in the heart of Vienna. It was popular, probably rather too popular, especially the Monet galleries. I found the paintings were too close to each other, but nevertheless interesting, even if they are not his most famous work. The basement is taken over by an single artist – Export. Suffice to say, its an acquired taste.

Do not be deterred by the seeming grandeur of this building as the exhibitions and presentation of the state rooms is quite spell binding. Many originals of a wide range of artists, in an easily to follow thematic plan. Access was easy, staff very helpful and clearly proud of their Gallery. The only sadness for me was that there was no one book(let) of the Albertina itself. Volumes for individual artists and historical periods, genre etc, but not anything on the gallery itself. However let this not put you off visiting one of the jewels of Vienna

No trip to Wien is complete without a mosey around this lovely series of Galleries. And the Cafe is a great place to relax afterwards (see separate review) Relatively uncrowded, despite it being August. Will return in 2024 Hayling Seagoon

Our fondest memory of visiting the Albertina Museum was watching a professor teaching his students about Pablo Picasso’s work, “Woman in a Green Hat,” 1947. In the middle of the painting is an “eye.” He pointed out where ever one went, that “eye” would follow you. We focused on seeing the Batliner Collection with works from Monet, Degas and Renoir to name a few artists. The museum is actually famous for its collection of sketches and etchings. We liked the fact that pictures without “flash” are approved. Having a Monet painting on your computer monitor is a superb way to remember the moments. The museum, Albertina, is named after the combination of two individuals: Albert of Saxony and his wife, Maria Christina. At one time it was a residence turned into a palace. Damage from WWII bombings eventually forced a total refurbishment. We found the steps outside going down/up to be painted in various colors. In our case, it was painted in the flag for the LGBTQ community, Picasso and Monet paintings. It does change depending on the season. There are actually two museums. The one we went to was near Burggarten on Albertinaplatz 1. Not far is “Albertina Modern” near “Karlsplatz.” If you found this review “helpful” in any way, please press “Thumbs-up” to let me know.

Not to be missed among Vienna Museums. Beautiful building, a very nice art collection, at present with a special one of a private owner. Really amazing number of great paintings from famous artist and from different phases.

Really fantastic art museum, a definite highlight of our Vienna trip! I’ve been to lots of art museums, and this one is up there with the MET in my opinion. Although it’s small, the exhibits are very thoughtfully put together and the artworks themselves are stunning. I really loved how almost every single piece had commentary in German and English, and you could tell someone wrote both in their native languages - there were no translation errors. Also really enjoyed the palace section of the museum and seeing all the rooms put together. Don’t miss the rabbit, it’s hidden back in that section!
