Daughter of Duncan Ballantine and Nancy E. Hunting, wife of Frank Newman, whom she married in September 1881 in Andes, New York, and from whom she was later divorced, and mother of Hazel Ballantine Newman (married Walter Adolph Pattberg).

Second wife of James A. Gladstone, whom she married on April 17, 1895 in Andes, Delaware, New York.

In 1870, Agnes Ballantine, aged 10, was living in Andes, Delaware, New York, in the home of her parents, Duncan Ballantine, aged 49, a merchant and banker, and Nancy Ballentine, aged 40, with siblings, David Ballentine, aged 19, a clerk in a store, James Ballantine, aged 15, George Ballentine, aged 14, Ephraim G. Gladstone, no age given, a physician/general practitioner, to whom she had been married for fourteen years, a second marriage for both. Living with them were son-in-law, Walter A. Pattberg, aged 25, an engineer for the railroad, and daughter, Hazel B. Pattberg, aged 24, who had been married for two years, and granddaughter, Helen Marie Pattberg, aged 1 year, 4 months, and servant, Pearl L. Kelley.

In 1920, Agnes B. Gladstone, aged 59, was living in Andes, Delaware, New York, with her husband, James A. Gladstone, aged 73, a physician with his own office.

Obituary - Mrs. Dr. J. H. Gladstone died at her home Thursday night, after an illness of long duration, aged 63 years. Some time ago she suffered a shock from which she never fully recovered. Her maiden name was Ballantine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Duncan Ballantine. A woman with an unusual kind heart and always thoughtful of others, she leaves besides her husband a daughter, Mrs. Walter Pattberg, one brother, George Ballantine, and a sister, Mrs. M. Linn Bruce, all of Andes. The funeral was held at her late home Monday at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. Forbes and Rev. Hewitt. Burial in the Rural cemetery.
