After a two-year long hiatus due to the COVID pandemic, a new Bean Queen will be crowned at the Huron Community Fair for 2022.

Three young ladies applied for the title this year: Regan Sydney Emming of Harbor Beach, Hailey Nicole Mausolf of Minden City, and Samantha Lynn Warczinsky of Minden City.

The applicants were honored with a dinner on Monday, July 25, after which the judging took place. According to Shelly Sowles, a member of the Huron County MSU Extension who assisted the Bean Board with the event, the decision was a difficult one for the judges to make, so much so that they interviewed each candidate twice.

The women were all knowledgeable and clearly spent a lot of time on farms learning the practicalities of agriculture.

"I think they all represented bean growers very well," Sowles said.

Sponsored mainly by the local farmer co-ops and elevators, the Bean Queen coronation has been hosted by the Huron County Bean Board and Bean Growers Association since 1934, making it just two years shy of its 90th anniversary this year. This year's crowning will be at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, in the Hagen Show/Sale Barn at the Huron Community Fair.
