The first official trailer for Godzilla vs Kong has been released ahead of the clash of the Titans' arrival on HBO Max in March - but what song plays with the new footage? After each taking top billing in their own individual movies, a huge crossover event has been in the works for the legendary monsters for some time and they're set to share the big screen once more for one of 2021's biggest event movies. It may not be hitting the big screen as intended, but Godzilla vs Kong arguably now gets an even bigger audience.

The huge spectacle movie brings Godzilla back to the big screen after Kong: Skull Island and gives this iteration of Godzilla his third movie after Gareth Edwards' 2014 original Godzilla and King of the Monsters. And despite how the latter ended, there's another battle brewing for which of the creatures will bow, against the backdrop of a mysterious human conspiracy threatening to wipe out all of the Titans. With the lines of good and bad blurred, both within the monsters and humankind, as a cast of human characters, led by Millie Bobby Brown, Alexander Skarsgård, Rebecca Hall, and Brian Tyree Henry look on and try to help.

Despite the theatrical world grinding almost to a halt, fans have remained eager for months for a first real look at the face-off, despite several delays thanks to the pandemic and that has now finally been delivered. The Godzilla vs Kong trailer also promises a huge amount of action, even if it seems there's a lot still consciously left as a mystery: it certainly looks like it lives up the billing. And throughout, the Godzilla vs Kong trailer is accompanied by the song "Here We Go" by Chris Classic.

It's a very different vibe to the epic, almost operatic rock offered by System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian for Godzilla: King of the Monsters, but it makes sense that it was different. And with composer Thomas Holkenborg (AKA Junkie XL) adding his own irrepressible style to the original song, there's still the same emphasis on major guitar licks. If the song sounds familiar, it's likely you're a WWE fan, as it was previously and appropriately used for the theme song to Hell in a Cell 2019. Classic also put together the theme for WrestleMania 36 ("Work"), so he has previous with epic theatrical fight events on top of his work being used in the likes of Empire, Amy Schumer's Trainwreck, and Fantastic Four.

Given the undoubted temptation to go for a breathy cover of an epic song to try and dial up the drama, it's great to see Godzilla vs Kong going big with the sound. "Here We Go" leaves absolutely no doubt of what the tone of the movie is going to be or where it's aiming to land with audiences. Like a heavyweight boxing match, the trailer needed something as full-chested and bombastic, and the bass and beefed-up guitars here are the perfect accompaniment. The rest of the film's soundtrack will seemingly match that agenda with Junkie XL suggesting that he needed the "biggest bass drum on the planet for this score." So it's safe to assume Godzilla vs Kong will sound as big as it looks.
