Despite its name, don’t expect sporty handling from the Outlander Sport. Its ride is reasonably smooth at higher speeds, making it a decent option if you want a softer ride for long commutes. However, its steering is dull, and its suspension is easily unsettled at lower speeds by small bumps and uneven city streets.

The 2017 Outlander Sport has two four-cylinder engine options. Base models receive a 148-horsepower engine, while upper trim levels get a 168-horsepower engine. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, but only in the base ES models. The other trim levels come standard with a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
