  • Among Week 12 NFL line movement, home teams are favored in nine of 13 weekend games
  • The Tennessee Titans, 8-0 ATS in their last eight games, are 2.5-point home underdogs playing host to the Cincinnati Bengals
  • There isn’t a single total that is over 48 points, but three are under 40 points

Looking at the line movement in the odds and spreads of the weekend games for Week 12 of the NFL season, home teams are getting more respect. Just four of the 13 games on the docket are showing the home side as the underdog.

However, one of them is currently the hottest against the spread team in the NFL. The Tennessee Titans are 8-0 ATS in the NFL odds over their last eight games. But they’re a 2.5-point home underdog facing the reigning AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals. That line has actually moved from its opening of Bengals -1.5.

The NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles are an NFL-best 9-1 and the third betting choice in the Super Bowl odds. However, Philly is 0-3 ATS over the past three games. The Eagles are the 6.5-point home chalk over the Green Bay Packers in the Week 12 SNF game.

Before diving deeper into this week’s line movement, let’s look at the up-to-date Week 12 NFL odds.

In Week 12 against the spread picks, three games are showing a line of more than a touchdown. Two of those games list a double-digit favorite. Eight games are displaying totals that are under 44 points. Three of those games are dipping under 40 points.

NFL Week 12 Biggest Line Movement

Across NFL betting sites, two games are sharing the mark for the biggest movement in their line. The spread on the Chicago Bears vs New York Jets game lengthened from Jets -3.5 to New York -6. This sudden surge of support for the Jets materialized after head coach Robert Saleh was announcing a change at quarterback from Zach Wilson to Mike White.

White is kind of a folk hero in the Jets world. Last season, in his first NFL start, White threw for over 400 yards and led the Jets to a 34-31 upset of the eventual AFC champion Bengals. Of course, he lost his next two starts, but those facts don’t fit into the fairy tale narrative.

The line in the Houston Texans vs Miami Dolphins game lengthened from Miami -11.5 to Dolphins -14, but that’s simply because the Texans are terrible. Houston is 1-8-1 ATS this season. However, the Texans are also 6-2 ATS in their last eight games as a double-digit underdog.

Biggest Total Movement In Week 12 NFL Lines

To oddsmakers, Jets QB White is like the lemurs in the animated film Madagascar. As soon as they see him in the lineup, as far as the line is concerned, they like to move it, move it.

The total on the Baltimore Ravens vs Jacksonville Jaguars game moved three points. In a normal week, that would be significant movement. But once White was announced as the starting QB for the Jets, the total on their game dropped from 44.5 to 38.5 points.

In the NFL public betting trends, 83% of public handle splits on the total are going with the under for this game.

Oddsmakers Giving Broncos Slight Edge Over Panthers

In the NFL Week 12 opening odds, the Denver Broncos, 3-7 ATS this season, are set as the 1-point home chalk over the Carolina Panthers. That’s the shortest line of the week.

The Broncos are 0-3 ATS as a home favorite this season. The Panthers are 2-2 in ATS picks as a road underdog in 2022.

Rams Making Wrong Kind of History

As big as Miami’s point spread margin over Houston is this week, it isn’t the longest line of Week 12. The Los Angeles Rams, with third-string QB Bryce Perkins making his first career start, are astonishing 15.5-point underdogs at the Kansas City Chiefs in a battle between two of the last three teams to win the Super Bowl.

The defending Super Bowl champion Rams made all kinds of history last season. They’re rewriting the record books again this season, but it’s all the wrong kind of history. At 3-7, they’re sharing the worst 10-game record for a reigning Super Bowl champion with the 1987 New York Giants and 1999 Broncos.

The point spread on this game opened as KC -14 and just keeps on growing. Previously, the longest spread on a game where the defending Super Bowl winner was the underdog was 13.5 points. The 2018 Eagles were getting 13.5 points at the Rams, while the 1995 San Francisco 49ers got 13.5 points at Dallas.

Interestingly, both double-digit underdogs not only covered, they won those games outright.

Three Under 40 In Total Digits

For the third time this season, both the Broncos and Panthers will be playing a game with a total under 40 points. The 36-point total on this game is the lowest set for Week 12. It’s among three games going under 40 for the week.

Carolina is 1-1 this season when the total dips below 40. Denver is 0-2. The Panthers are 4-7 on the total in 2022. Denver is 1-9 on the over/under. The Broncos have gone under in each of their last six games.

Chargers In Biggest Total Game Again

Last week, the largest total invoked during Week 11 was the 52 points offered on the Chiefs at Los Angeles Chargers game. And the over hit as KC won 30-27.

This week, it’s the Chargers who again are making up half of the largest total on the Week 12 slate. The Chargers at Arizona Cardinals game is set at 48 points.

The Chargers are 5-5 on the total this season. Arizona is 6-4-1.
