We love high tea and Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to make a plan to spend the day at one of NJ’s pretty tea houses.  Choose from English style, which has tiers of scones, sandwiches and desserts; or Japanese style, which centers the serving of tea around the principles of harmony, respect, purity and tranquility.

Boukakuan Tea House
1832 Jacksonville Jobstown Road, Mount Holly
The tea house is situated on the grounds of a Quaker Friends Meeting House from 1775, and was opened in 1997. The outside looks like a Quaker structure, but the interior is a four-and-a-half tatami mat tea room, complete with a small preparation room and sunken hearth.

Chez Alice Patisserie
5 Palmer Square W., Princeton
French tea time here is special, with its selection of macarons and petit fours. The two French-inspired teas are Paris For Her (green tea with notes of rose, raspberry and lychee) and French Garden Herbal Tea (caffeine-free apple, rose hip and pear, with sunflower and marigold petals).

Aside from a regular menu and food to go, you can plan a children’s party or come by for Sunday brunch.

Lady Magpie’s Tea & Curiosities

Located inside the Captain’s House at the Tuckerton Seaport, this tea room is inspired by the Steampunk aesthetic and a desire to preserve local history. The menu changes frequently but includes freshly baked scones, homemade breads and delicious desserts. The gift shop contains upcycled, repurposed china and other curiosities.

La Mademoiselle Macaron
41 S. Main St., Mullica Hill
The afternoon tea menu at this French bakery includes various selections, including adult tea, cream tea, dessert tea and children’s tea. Garden seating is available in the warmer weather.

The Lizzie Rose
217 E. Main St., Tuckerton
The Tea Room at the Lizzie is located inside a restored Victorian home that was recently updated. They offer a full three-tier English-style afternoon tea with clotted cream, scones and all the traditional trimmings. You’ll think you’re in a scene from “Downton Abbey.”

This beautiful Victorian home has outdoor seating in the warmer weather, including the occasional farmers market; separate indoor rooms for afternoon tea; special dinners and events planned at night; rooms for a B&B; and a year-round Christmas shop upstairs. You’ll love the collection of fine china tea sets, many of which have been donated by customers.

You’ll enjoy an English-style tea service in this Victorian setting. Aside from a quiet lunch with girlfriends, you can plan a baby shower, bridal shower or birthday on or off-premise.

The New Leaf Tea Room & Gift Shop
606 & 608 Main St., Riverton
The house was built in 1889 with a small building on the side serving as a butcher shop. The property was sold to a pharmacist who razed the butcher shop and built a modern drug store with a famous soda fountain and books to share. In the 1940s it was repurchased and rebranded as a furniture store. In 1979 the current gift shop opened, and in 2003 began its transition into a Victorian tea room. Now, tea lovers can choose from 35 different teas. Choose from Royal Tea, The Queen’s Tea or Little Celebri-Tea for kids ages 5-8. Borrow one of their vintage hats to complete the tea experience!

Oasis Farm

What’s special about Oasis TLC is that they provide job training, living quarters and meaningful employment to young adults with autism. You can also enjoy a tea party on the Colonial-era property in a comfortable, welcoming setting.
