      Critics Consensus

Despite strong performances from Bruce Willis and Mos Def, 16 Blocks is a shopworn entry in the buddy-action genre.

Brian Tallerico UGO There's a fine line between old-fashioned and cliched. Mar 24, 2007 Full Review David Edelstein New York Magazine/Vulture A happier surprise is the smart work of director Richard Donner: 16 Blocks is all jumble and jangle-crowds, snarled traffic, and discordant car horns. May 12, 2006 Full Review Simon Braund Empire Magazine A solid, bare-knuckle action-thriller from Richard Lethal Weapon Donner that avoids most of the genre's clichs and boasts a commendably dishevelled performance from Willis, as a washed-up NYPD flatfoot dissolving in self-loathing. Rated: 3/5 May 6, 2006 Full Review Joshua Starnes ComingSoon.net Told in nearly real-time 16 Blocks stops and starts, putting in buffers for decent character moments between Jack and Eddie. It's necessary to understand why they do what they do, but it makes what they're doing occasionally dull. Stoner J Underrated for sure. Not the best in the genre but lots of entertaining action. My only beef with it is them hiring Mos Def, not sure if he normally talks that strangely but I couldn't understand anything the dude says the whole way though Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/24 Full Review Alec B This should have worked as a simple concept thriller but it's just so predictable, which is the result of a screenplay that's way too neat and tidy. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 12/14/23 Full Review Giuliana C It is a hidden gem I came across in Prime Video. It keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to end, and it is touching in a way you would not expect from an action movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Honestly not bad but equally not believable . Maybe a few dirty cops but not the entire department of nyc having shootouts on the street like this 2.7 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/28/23 Full Review Audience Member It's not exactly original but solid performances and a good ending make this a really enjoyable watch. I dont really get the negative ratings to be honest. Its tense and fun and easily overcomes its mediocre dialouge with likable characters. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review john p Bruce does a great job of portraying a burn-out NY cop with the chance to redeem himself by putting his own life on the line. Against all odds he defends the defenseless and chatterbox walkie-talkie felon from bad-cop conspiracy. There's plenty of chase, guns, action, surprises and edge-of-your seat action. My teenage daughter watched this with me, (she's a Willis fan ever since Die Hard series and The Fifth Element), and she really like this too. It was a smart flick that proves people can make the right decision and decide to take the straight & narrow thru the jaws of Death into the hard cold Truth and thus find forgiveness and peace for themselves instead of wallowing in self pity, guilt and bitterness. Two-thumbs up! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
