Well the maker of the O.C has created a new teen drama, Gossip Girl. Looks pretty cool. The first episode is out and may be found through the usual avenues.
Word is its decent, if a little slow. No doubt we'll get it early next year.
What is it about?
Gossip Girl is an American television teen drama based on the popular novel series of the same name written by Cecily von Ziegesar. Gossip Girl revolves around the lives of socialite young adults growing up on New York's Upper East Side who attend elite academic institutions whilst dealing with sex, drugs, and other teenage issues.
Featuring an ensemble cast, the series mainly centers around the lives of former best friends, Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) and Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester), and their shared romantic interest, Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford). As outsiders looking in, Dan (Penn Badgley) and Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen) do not run in the same social or financial circles as their peers but are drawn into their lives nonetheless.
The series is narrated by a seemingly omniscient character, "Gossip Girl" (voiced by Kristen Bell), who runs a blog about her fellow Upper East Siders -- consequently stirring the pot and creating potential rivalries in this exclusive and vicious circle of friends.[1]

While I have read the books I found it difficult to work out who the characters were. Better introductions would've been nice or at least a bit where there names are clearly spoken. It wasn't until half-way through the episode that I got Chuck's name. Maybe I just missed it at the start. I appreciated the modernising of the characters, especially Mr Humpfery. I'm especially interested in finding out how Dan is played.

I don't come into the TV section much, but I thought there's usual a spoiler and a non spoiler thread. Since this was like the first thread for the show, detailing the premise and everyone would be starting off, I figured no spoilers would be the way to go.

I don't like it - to be honest I'ld rather watch an episode of laguna beach, the hills or newport harbour - at least its more real than what they have on this show.
The acting was really bad, you'll understand when you see it.
I saw a full promo of this one and it looks like Melrose meets The OC. Not something I will watch and surprising that it made it to air especially on The CW. I can't see it lasting long at all.

It's based on a series of books as your info indicates. The books are spoilers in themselves. I see the title has been changed so it's really a moot point. I look forward to the second episode to see the show take off (hopefully).

Yes that was what I thought when I first read about it. What made the O.C watchable was that juxtaposition of the lifestyle of these spoiled rich people and how Ryan lived and what he expected from society.
I don't have high hopes for the longevity or quality of this show.

Yeah definatly feels like a tv version of Cruel Intenions with some parts of the others mixed in. Yeah whilst it's watchable especially whilst other shows are on a break. So far it doesn't have that wow factor but maybe that because it's a new job and hasn't grown on me yet. Time will tell.

But for a while there they were saying that season two would be either 16 or 24 depending on ratings... not what i do not understand in todays television world is that if in america ppl dont like the show it gets cancelled but i dnt think they even look at the ratings from here... Also if i was them i would look at rating from the net with ppl using torrent or streaming or itunes etc.. because in todays world these would be becoming more important i would say!

Chuck's a classic.
I loved the finale. It was refreshing that the writers decided not to make the Lily/Rufus not staying together into some melodramatic heart wrenching deal. I wasn't even forced to suffer through wedding vows! It definitely doesn't follow the predicable route the O.C. did. My favorite part was the end where we get to see the set up for the new couples. Next season is going to be juicy, there's still plenty of story to tell and I praise the writers for not using every storyline up season 1 like what happened with the O.C.
This show is horrific. It is against everything I stand for.

Have to admit to enjoying this series. I think part of it for me is the Life these kids get to lead in NYC. It's the city of dreams that place. I also admit that Chuck is my favorite character.
well.. I thought, no way am I watching this show.. I has ep 1-12 for the past month and half on my lappy.. well, the other day my GF was over and she made me watch it.. after she left I watched another.. and another.. yesterday at school I watched 2 eps.. then on the way home watched one on my phone.. then when I got home watched 3 more.. then 1 at night.. and now I have no more to watch :'( how sad.. will be getting 13-17 (or 18?) tomorrow I hopes :D Yaya... season 2 is coming out soo soon!

Anyone else wondering what's with all the teenagers drinking in hotels and bars in this show. They don't even get carded.
Well, I admit I couldn't watch the first 10 mins of the show, but since there was absolutely nothing on TV this passed summer I decided to give the show a chance, I changed my mind, this show is awesome, perhaps because I'm a Dan kind of guy, I also like the girls on the show, they are so hot, even the 14 y/o Taylor Momsen (Jenny) if she looks like that now, imagine her in her 20's!.
Chuck makes me laugh almost every episode, but lately on season 2 I'm kind of feel sorry for him.

I'm so hooked on this show. But I'm wondering how long it can stay awesome. Def season 2 is going to be great I think. But if they push for a third, there doesn't seem to be enough characters, though there is 2 more than OC (Marissa, Seth, Ryan Sunner vs Nate, Chuck, Dan, Blair Serena and Jenny/Vanessa) so who knows.

Serena and Dan are so uninteresting. We've seen this dance before. Give us something new! It seems the writers are unable to think of another way to include Daniel in the lives of the elite. Hopefully once the truth is revealed their union will be over for good. The problem probably lies in the fact that Serena is vapid and dull, and Dan is righteous and hypocritical...
Conversely, Chuck and Blair have amazing chemistry. They are the reason the show continues running. It's nice to see Chuck back to his debauched ways, except more twisted than before. I only hope the writers don't ruin Chuck and Blair. They are only characters on the show with intelligence. Except for perhaps Lily, but I hate that her character is going to (undeservedly) inherit money from Bart.

Most definitely. They could have done the smart thing and kept Aaron in the picture with Serena and let Dan hook up with the new teacher cause that's definitely what they're trying to setup. But no, instead they decide it would be a good idea to let Dan and Serena get back together only to break them up again. They have no idea what to do with Dan's character and I'm not sure if they know what they're doing with Serena either. I'd rather prefer whinging Jenny story to continue than seeing Dan/Serena go round in circles.

Brown is in Rhode island. nate is going to columbia which is in nyc. they havnt said anything about chuck so i suspect he will be working for bass industries.

Oh and something I like is how everyone is a bad guy at some stage or most of the time, even dan becomes someone you can't be proud of and that is different to everything else, also a better representation of human nature
My sister gave me the first two seasons on DVD (yes sad, I know), and although I hated it at first, I stuck with it as nothing else was on. Now this show has really grown on me, although more as a guilty pleasure than quality television.
Looking forward to the S3 premiere tomorrow :)
My sister gave me the first two seasons on DVD (yes sad, I know), and although I hated it at first, I stuck with it as nothing else was on. Now this show has really grown on me, although more as a guilty pleasure than quality television.
Yea I got both seasons off a friend of mine, watched the first in 2 days, now starting the second.
Love how they are 45mins per ep, Entourage annoys me with its 20min eps.

Nice way to kick off the season, looks like they are setting up some recurring characters to become mains and also introducing some new ones.
Don't exactly have high expectations for this season. Just seems to be more difficult to string a story together that is still interesting. Still a good start.
During the season break I had forgotten how amazingly attractive EVERYONE in this show is.

Chuck and B got in the wrong car! They got into Nates car! Look at the licence plate of the car Nate gets out of before the party and then the one that crashed! That explains the whole "there has been a terrible accident" call!
Plates started with DQF or DFQ or something...
The "terrible accident" call was from Chuck's Uncle Jack, so I don't think there's a big conspiracy surrounding Nate.
Actually I think Diana could be Chuck's mother or some other relative.. there was a scene a few episodes ago where Chuck and Diana met and he felt that she was familiar to him. Also in another episode Diana burned a picture of a woman she found in Bart's file that Charlie stole.

yeah i've just gone back and rewatched that scene – the focus isn't on the number plate of the limo but on the fluid (brake fluid?) that has leaked on the ground as the car drives off.
if someone tampered with the car i don't see how it could have been targetting a specific person. how do we know it was nate's car that they got into.. did I miss something? i dont know, i think it's more likely to be an accident and chuck and blair just chose the wrong car. if nate had that car instead he probably would have been fine as the papparazzi weren't chasing him. the gossip girl voiceover about life being the sum of our choices, choose poorly and paying the price etc seems to be a clue.
Have a look a few scenes back when nate gets out of his limo at charlies party, it's hard to see but it's the same limo that chuck and b get into.

I love it! To be honest, I didn't think much of the idea of Blair and Dan "together" originally, but all the scenes they've had together since then have totally won me over.

First episode is interesting. They've made it a bit different with the reveal of who Gossip Girl is and her reasons for doing it straight off the bat.
But so far most of the characters are dull and some of the actors look like they're 30.
