Should the products be given the “bump” from store shelves?
Context
Cribs for babies and infants used to have the slats spaced further apart. As a result, they would often include — or parents would choose to separately buy — cotton pads called “crib bumpers,” to prevent the child’s head from falling through that space.
But in recent years, cribs are now designed with the slats spaced closer together, eliminating the need for bumper pads. Yet some parents still use them anyway, either for aesthetic reasons, or to prevent a child’s arms or legs from going through the open space between slats. (Although that arm or leg issue is more of a nuisance than an actual threat of serious injury or death.)
