Joel McKinnon Miller is an American actor, born on February 21, 1960, in Rockford, Minnesota. He is best known for his roles as Don Embry on Big Love and Detective Norm Scully on Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Miller began his acting career after attending the University of Minnesota Duluth, where he studied theatre and opera. He dropped out briefly to join The Acting Company before returning to the university to complete his degree in theatre with an acting emphasis in 2007. In addition to his notable television roles, Miller has appeared as a guest star on various American television series including Las Vegas, Cold Case, Murphy Brown, and many more.
