How Many Votes Have Been Counted?

Bloomberg News is estimating the percentage of total votes that have been counted using our own turnout model. This number is more difficult to calculate than in past years because of how many people chose to vote absentee or by mail instead of at their precinct on Election Day.

Even when the vote totals reach 100%, it doesn't necessarily mean that the count is final. Values can exceed 100% when turnout is higher than the model estimated. Right now, total vote estimates assume historic voter turnout, but this assumption may change throughout the night in response to early turnout reports.

Percentage of votes reported is based on estimated turnout from a Bloomberg News model. Even when the vote totals reach 100%, it doesn't necessarily mean that the count is final. Turnout estimates have a margin of error of +/-5%, and values can exceed 100% when turnout is higher than the model expected. Current percentages assume historic voter turnout. This assumption may change in response to early turnout reports.
