Attractions
Many of the major landmarks are clustered downtown along the Vltava River. Prague is the center of Bohemian culture and art. The Old Town Square has been the center of public life in the city for more than a thousand years. The square hosts many of the city's major sights. Its most famous structure is the 15th-century Astronomical Clock. Every hour, the clock and its surrounding statuary put on a little performance for the sightseers who flock to the square. The square is also home to the Church of Our Lady Before Tyn, with its distinctive twin spirals and a golden image of the Virgin Mary, and the Convent of St Agnes, which is the oldest Gothic structure in the city. Unlike many cities, the Old Town of Prague has a multitude of hotels at very reasonable prices by European standards.

From Old Town, you can cross over the river on another famous landmark, the Charles Bridge. The bridge is the most popular meeting place in the city and has become an informal art market. Come during the day to view the amazing architectural detail and statuary. Come at night when the bridge and adjoining town is lit up to find one of the most romantic spots in Europe. On the west side of the bridge, you'll find the Hradcany district with several large parks along with the Prague Castle and St. Vitus Cathedral.

While Prague is a very old city, it may have one of the best collections of modern art. In the Old Town Square, you will find the Czech Museum of Cubism. The square's renovated Municipal House has a magnificent example of Art Nouveau from the early 1900s. The National Gallery features one of the best collection of modern art in Europe. As you stroll around the city, you will also find remnants of the city's Soviet past with a museum dedicated to the KGB.
