Medicine worked very much in favor of longevity, but lacks the scope of social work?, Says the social worker Neuza Alves Neves, who works in the Holy Family Complex Gerontology, in Jardim Bela Vista. The increase must be accompanied by the expectation of quality of life.Neuza Second, the legislation that assists the elderly is great:? We have a national policy for the elderly, a statute, Loas (Organic Law of Social Assistance), but lacks enforce the law?.The long-term institution where he works has Neuza two centuries of its 66 inmates. The mining Sebastiana Teresa de Castro was born on September 6, 1900 and lived most of his life alone in the Garden New World, in Goiania. He has a history of abuse and loneliness, but was supported by a group spirit. He arrived at the complex for eight years and as never married nor had children, donated the house, now transformed into a spiritual center. The lady of 107 years in good health, while walking on a wheelchair after a broken femur, four years ago.In occupational therapy, helps to separate the scraps for making carpets.Lost a bit of lucidity, but let the good humor with the assistants and visitors.Benedicta Maria Francina is 102 for 32 years and came to the institution.Descendant of indigenous people, Goiás Corumbá has played the harmonica as a hobby. It has heart disease and weakened lungs, resulting from the life of a smoker.Today I received love and care of the professional staff of the entity that is maintained by the Organization of Volunteers of Goiás (OVG).To Neuza, enforce laws protecting the elderly is the duty of family, community and state. But for her, society does not know how to respect the white hairs.Genres Infant mortality decreased 64% between 1980 and 2006.In Goiás, the average is 20??27 years was 47.3?, decreased 57.7%.Men still die more than women. In Brazil, in 2005, life expectancy for men was 68.2 years and for women 75.8.In 46 years, male mortality has intensified, especially in the range of 20 to 24 years. In 1960, the chance of a dying man with 20 years was 1.1 times greater than that of a woman the same age.According to IBGE, in 2006, the chance male, compared to the same woman a chance, the same age group (20 to 24 years), increased to 4.1 times. The increase in male mortality is due, in part, to deaths from external causes or violent deaths.Violence in Brazil, a man aged between 20 and 24 are four times more likely to die than a woman with the same characteristics. In 1980, this difference was 2 times. This increase is due mainly to violent deaths, say the experts from IBGE, reported yesterday that the Table of Mortality.? This situation clearly reveals that little progress has been made with regard to public safety. These young people could be entering the labor market, but were killed prematurely, leaving their families traumatized?, Said the manager of research and analysis of Demographic Dynamics of the IBGE, Juarez de Oliveira Castro.

"He wiped it all. There's nothing left of what the people planted. "Out of work and food, his parents were forced to pick up their children and flee in search of" salvation "in a distant region, where they stayed for a year. "To get there, we walked for 20 days." She does not remember where they were right.

She now lives in a brick house with electricity and running water, built with money "joined" Retirement Rural (R $ 545 monthly) and with the help of their children. Have you lived in three houses in disrepair. The first two walls were "filler" and third was made of adobe. With just over 20 years of marriage, in 1956, Maria Pereira dos Santos suffered a blow. Her husband, John Francis Firmin, the father of her six children, said he had another woman and left the family. Two years later, he traveled to Sao Paulo. He justified that "would make money." The state of Minas

When she was born, the republican Brazil was just a child, slavery, though abolished for 12 years, still cast shadows dire country house and the new capital of Minas crawling between buildings under construction, dusty streets and dreams of freedom.

It was at this time, the lights out of the 19th century, which Letícia Ferreira de Souza came to the world, more exactly on a farm in Bocaiúva nearby Jequitinhonha River. Today (day 30), on the eve of 2011, with mass, cake and "happy birthday" sung by relatives and friends of the community of the Lambs, where he lives, 95 km from the municipal headquarters and 464 in Belo Horizonte, Leticia turns 110 years, declaring themselves "middle surdinha and head a little bad."

Other than that, exudes health, walking slowly by his own backyard, harvest fruit and store personal stories that crossed the 20th and run through the 21 flavor sometimes sweet, sometimes sour, but always suffused with emotion.

The rain does not stop, the back roads skirting vast plantations of eucalyptus become rivers, GPS and cell phone do not work and the lack of signs to make it more difficult to locate the Lambs, 700 meters from the Jequitinhonha. The way is to ask somebody and luckily find a driver who knows the woman's centennial and is in the direction of the community.

An hour later, Zélia Maria Vieira, 51, married to a nephew of Leticia and her companion during the day, open the door of the house and decorated with simple paintings of saints, heated by wood stove and a foot in the door pinecone . "Let's go!" Invites sympathy.

Sitting in a chair and wearing skirt and cotton blouse, Leticia gets a hug from visitors, and any questions you do not understand, is a shell with his hand around the ear or look, through the complicity, and to goddaughter Maria Zélia Maria das Aches Freire Antunes, 79, the Dodo, another constant presence at home.

"We stay here in the morning and afternoon, but at night she sleeps alone. Only with God, "says Maria Zélia, excited about today's celebration at the Church of Santos Reis, at 16h, and the presence of the archbishop emeritus of Montes Claros, in northern Minas Gerais, Dom Geraldo Magela de Castro. "He always comes on the anniversary and the godmother is quite happy," adds Dodo.

Until then sitting on the sidelines, Randall says he was unmarried and auntie, helping to take care of many children of brothers and sisters. He had rather a large one and only love, Ze Dejanira the son of a black woman, a former slave, with a farmer, youth romance hindered by the harsh and unyielding father in front of the white girl dating a man with "dark".

At the height of adolescence, Leticia stamped his foot, cried with anger at the prejudice he faced his father and began to meet secretly with the boy, but without any intimacy. Indeed, there was only a physical contact of blessed memory. "Once, I was distracted and Joe came walking behind, stealthily. When I turned, gave me a kiss. Neither knew what it was and asked for an explanation. "

The inevitable question - "in your mouth?" - Makes you smile and put his hand softly on her face. A few seconds of silence and admits to have felt, unforgettable kiss on the lips, a certain warmth in the body. The courtship, however, ended then. "Always dream and prayed for him all his life. My youth was good, but my father was very angry. I fought, but it did not work, "he confides.

Zé da Dejanira married and Leticia, a name that means joy in Latin, was left alone and to "seed" as she puts it. Making face of mystery, says that in times of courtship, she and her lover agreed that the first to die would come into contact with each other in a kind of pact. "And it turns out, when he left, he came to warn me?" He says with certainty that the scene was real, and not the fruit of the fertile imagination of eternal love.

Dressmaker, seamstress, good crochet, income and service in the country, Leticia waited much to have your own house, built some years ago by relatives. "To live is to much work to others," sums up his long life, which includes not eating freak or fancy diets. "Come all, have an appetite darn, just do not like leaves. Awake early and eat lunch at about 11am, "said Maria Zélia, when it picks up a pinecone in Leticia and walk into the house, as more rain comes.

Where can this passing of three centuries walks to the Church of the Holy Kings or visit the small cemetery of the Lambs, the community where 30 families live. An act, however, can not miss in their day to day, praying the rosary, before lying down in front of pictures of Santa Luzia, São Sebastião, Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of Aparecida.

Snuff box where guard (or smoke)

Another custom is routine snuff - and the amount seems to be huge, as the number of empty boxes gold accumulated on the dresser near the bed. The habit of inhaling tobacco dust began many years ago, during strong headache, brought relief and become routine.

Under the bed, Leticia holds two bottles of "magic bullets" for pain in the legs. For the two companions, a friend who lived for more than a century is "warrior" because he helped many people and struggled a lot, without losing faith in God.

This, incidentally, is the engine that drives the long journey from Leticia, one of the older women of the country where they live, according to the 2010 Census of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), 23 700 people over 100 years .

In the private world of the old mine, which has become more open since the age of 90, there came the news that Brazil had elected a president metallurgical or the first woman to lead the nation. "God is good is that. The worst that can happen to someone is being helpless, and I stand so far. I've been offended snake three times, his leg swelled up, had no remedy at the time and God answered me, "he says bluntly, the secret for so many years.

"It's a very strong person. Last year, after cutting his foot, was almost dead but came back good, full of health. I almost cried to see her sick, "recalls his nephew Reginaldo Aparecido Vieira, 34.

Proof of age of Leticia, born December 30, 1900, is guarded in the curia of Montes Claros, in the pages with agreements between the baptized 14/12/1889 (one month, so after the Proclamation of the Republic) and 17/08/1902. There was recorded by Father Dominic Pimenta Figueiredo: "At three (days) from February 1901 to Leticia solemnly baptized, born on December 30 next month, the daughter of Vicente Ferreira de Souza and Maria da Conceicao Pereira."

A confusion between the year of birth and baptism made, including that the centenary of Leticia was celebrated when she was 101 years. Then in a closer reading, it was found that the "next month" was the year 1900.

According to the secretary of the Curia, Fatima Dias, the book will be restored to compose the file from the archdiocese, which is completing its centenary. Already a birth certificate issued by a notary of Bocaiuva, in the 1980s, shows alteration in birth year (1905), shows his nephew Reginald, who also keeps a portfolio of professional mining.

Three days after completing 110 years, on December 31, after going through three centuries, Mrs. Leticia died.

Lucid enough, she reported the difficulties that came when it came to the Paraná. "It was all Bush and there was nothing, a doctor there, so I went to sick people, mainly children, benzendo and praying and they were healed, it certainly was the faith in God".
At the time, says Of Sebastiana, the only transport was horse and at times had been the father, and we visited-mos residents for help. The most difficult was the uprising (revolt of Settlers), killed many people, said Of Sebastiana.
Sebastiana Cacio de Oliveira was born on 20 January 1901 in Campos Novos/RS, according to her, had 20 children, of whom 4 were killed and the remaining 7 alive. Grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, she lost the account.
One thing that impresses in The Sebastiana, is physical stamina to 110 years. She says not suffering from any disease, has no restrictions as to food (and is good fork, the second son), and has a great memory. Likes to tell facts of his life and one of them happened when he saw a plane pass, "I hid, because I thought the world would end."
After knowing Of Sebastiana, we're sure she'll be with us for many years yet and certainly did not follow any diet of some nutritionist to keep all this health.

Lesson for 109 years: ex-pawn has literacy classes in Dom PedritoSt. Alphonsus Sant'ana receives weekly visits from a literacy
Mauro Toralles | mauro.toralles @ zerohora.com.br
When sitting in any chair and firms the eye strain beyond the trees and birds, the old St. Alphonsus Sant'ana reaches to the sky and sees pawn boy, is upright on the saddle of a horse in the cares of daily grasslands of Dom Pedrito. Back immemorial these tours, which most stirs his long life of 109 years are receiving literacy classes in the only asylum of the city.

Probably not giving much of it, but what he does is an example of what is important is to move forward. Always. At the age of 21 inhabitants of the orphanage for the Elderly Major Alencastro Carneiro da Fontoura, this provision is even more relevant.
- Most prefer to stand by - noted the director, Manuel Garcia.

Santo and six other companions did not deliver, and at least twice a week, receiving the visit of a teacher's Literate Brazil Program. At such times, St. turns kid barn, sees the fire ground and alive, perhaps a corn cob kebabs and turning on the red hot embers. Good thing to think about. Give it a desire to learn the lyrics. As far as memory can go on better days, Santo points out that it was too far, no:

- Hey, the school was far in the campaign, and I never left the "egg and grape." I went to learn more after I left school.

This memory corresponds to one of the lessons of the old textbooks, the time of "Grandma saw the grape" - that was not how children learn to read? Between the egg and fruit, the Holy espana boy's age and the dust hangs some tantrums humorous Josi Storniolo with Brazil, the master of these students so special.

- He says that if you have to take a shower does not come to class - the teacher laughs.

But this is just to lead, to draw attention and say "Hey, I'm alive, look at me." Holy is the last to leave. Says it will not take lessons, but it does. And always ask for something that will not win: the textbooks of that time with a woman dressed in red and a lamb. In contrast, there are well-drawn letters. If you have managed to actually read this new phase is still collecting the letters.

Retirement age was achieved last year

Some colleagues, more precisely two, jumped on stage and they are reading. Maybe not get to St. taste that great. But this is not the most important now. What matters is to keep busy. Josie uses trickery to hold some women in the program. Do not want to read a lot, prefer to paint. Then paint it and then return to the letters, is the law of literacy.

Time when the memory wall jumps and will stop at St. Skulls, the location where he was born March 12, 1901. It was there that grew into an adult. The memories wander, nostalgic space that came and went until it touches the horizon, almost without being able to see. Sound taken from the harmonica helps you relax a little in some of the farms where he worked for and dreamed of dancing teapots and hot.

This man astray, unmarried and without children to care for the elderly, for years was to find shelter in the asylum. And since last year has become more citizen. With the birth certificate, identity card and CPF made, was retired by age and had opened a bank account where he receives his salary. The past is the harmonica, this spreads the letters drawn on paper. The Holy gaudério follows in suit.

With great faith and devotion, it reserves moments to pray for health for people

When Carolina was born there was no Ninth cars or TVs. Memories are the days of radio, at which time she was a married woman with two children to raise. According to the Register of Individual Taxpayers (CPF) on May 6, 1901 Carolina Zambon was born Geraldine, who on Friday, completes 110 years.

There are no official figures but it is believed that the Ninth Carolina, as it is affectionately called by everyone in the neighborhood of Santana Trentino - where he has lived for over 60 years with his family - is the oldest woman in Piracicaba. Owner has an enviable health, she remembers important facts to Brazil, as the revolution of 32 and the end of World War II. In a lot of work in the coffee harvest in childhood and later in sugar cane, Ninth Carolina spent half his life to prayer for one who loses objects, documents, and especially children with health problems. 'To this day she prays for those who ask. But she does not like being called a healer, simply, a person with faith to ask God for the needy, "said the daughter Elza Geraldine, who lives on the same site of the Ninth Carolina with her husband, son and brother. The religiosity has always been present in her life. She was the mother who woke up with his brothers at 5:30 am to go to the masses in the neighborhood of Recreation, Tamandupá near the farm where he was born. 'The priest came by train and the farm was far from the church. We went by wagon or walking, "said Nona Carolina.

Today she no longer goes to church. Avoid leaving the house for fear of falling, although it has never taken any drop. Masses are accompanied by television or radio. 'The noise also bothers a little. The house is always full, and though no illness, the aunt can not bear to stay long standing. She also filled with very strange and noisy places, "said the niece, created by it, Zaira Zambom.

Every day, Ninth Carolina up at seven in the morning. The power is still the same: rice, beans and meat. Everything cooked in lard. Soup and polenta are the favorite foods. At breakfast, she only drinks milk and egg together with rustic toast warm. Rarely have wine. At nine in the evening she is sleeping after praying to God and their patron saints, St. Anthony of Padua and Our Lady of Perpetual Help. HISTORY From childhood lived on the farm Tamandupá, Ninth Carolina remembers who helped care for children , sons of neighbors, from their eight years of age. Then she began to work in the fields, which prevented her from attending school and be literate. Married at age 27 with Pedro Antonio Geraldine. The former laborer recalled with joy just five months of dating. 'The wedding took place quickly, "said laughing.

Union were born three children. The eldest died in months of life. But her dream was to have children and, therefore, went on to create two. 'I am what I am thanks to the warmth and simplicity of my aunt, "said Zaira that was created by Nona Carolina until age 15. Living in the same place if the children and José Luiz Alferino Maximian had six and seven years respectively, Ninth Carolina, now has seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

District of Tamandupá - Ninth Carolina
religiosity and faith mark the trajectory of a rural worker who came to 102 years
ELIANA TEIXEIRA [email protected]
The sweetness is in the blue eyes. The carefully coiffed hair, ponytail stuck in the dark background of flowered dress, a pair of slippers, make up the look of an ordinary woman who worked in the fields of 10 to 75 years of age. This is the portrait of Geraldine Carolina Zambom that reached 102 years, and willing and quiet. That more than a century of existence, 40 are dedicated to prayer for one who loses objects, documents, and especially children with health problems such as fever, worm or "scared."
Ninth Carolina, is known as Santana - Colony Trent Piracicaba - where he lived for 50 years, Miss Lavinia was born on the farm, in Boa Vista. Her parents came from Padua, Italy, to work and raised their children speaking Italian, maintaining European traditions. Children and grandchildren do not understand the language too, when the matriarch decides to communicate in Italian.
Living in a leased site, if the children Luizinho and Joseph had six and seven years old, respectively, she adopted Santana as his refuge. There, the ninth Carolina still resides with her son Joseph, now aged 72, the daughter and a grandson. Trentino dialect she says she does not understand.
Although he spoke Italian, prefers to communicate in Portuguese, which only learned to pronounce. Reading and writing are unknown to the ninth. The work on the farm and the distance of the school prevented her from being literate. Of the eight siblings, only two have learned to read and write a course for the 4th year of the old primary.
From childhood lived on the farm Tamandupá, ninth Carolina remembers that "looked" children, nephews and children of neighbors, from eight years . Then he started working in the fields. It was the mother who brought lunch for her and the brothers - now deceased - all day, at 9 am, and coffee at noon. Life followed the routine of cutting cane, handling, milling played by donkeys, harvesting coffee, until marriage. "Tired. It started early and went until four in the afternoon. Came home, had yet to collect calf, cow milking, "he recalls.
She married 27 years, at a time when girls married at 17, 18 years old. The love story of the ninth Carolina is remembered for her with joy. After one of her brothers married the sister of Antonio Pedro Geraldine, fate took care of the rest. The boy, four years older, he attended the family home to "visit" his sister.
He was interested in one of her sisters, but was not reciprocated. "My sister told me this boy is beautiful, why do not you date him? I accepted, "he recalls, smiling.
There were five months of dating. Geraldine was a horse, Tanquinho Tamandupá the farm to meet his girlfriend. Sitting in the room, accompanied by her parents, dating was fine. The conversation rolled loose on the farm.
They married in their hands without touching each other. The ceremony was a cold Thursday, at eight o'clock in the church of the Immaculate Conception in Vila Rezende. Celebrated the union with lunch - chicken and pasta - and traveled to Campinas.
They were born three children. The youngest died just three months of dehydration. At eight years old the other two children began to work in the garden, pulling eucalyptus cutting. The dream of the ninth Carolina was to have daughters. She came to "create" two. One of them even 14 years, when the biological parents decided to get it. Ninth cried.
Another girl appeared in her life. The child's mother was working and could not stick with it. But at age nine, she went to fetch the girl. It was New Year's Eve. "She called me aunt. He cried, would not go away. I cried a lot too. Then she brought me a bunch of roses and a picture of Bom Jesus, "he recalls.
As a reward, the daughter and son Joseph Elza gave ninth five granddaughters, she helped create. All were married. Four live in a Santana and Glory in the Garden. The two sons of Carolina ninth gave him seven grandchildren. The matriarch has 11 great-grandchildren. "I have a granddaughter, Giulia. It is a little beauty, "melts.
She loved milk, go and wash clothes, sweep the yard, humming a fashion violation. Nona always liked to hear music played on accordions and double tonic and Tinoco. Wash clothes in the river, where he entered the water at waist height, it was another routine that lasted three, four hours. She took a tablecloth, bran bread, shook the river and the fish attracted by food seeking. "He'd come home with a towel full of fish for us to eat," he recalls.
In the leased site, where he lives to this day, the children and grandchildren grow sugarcane, corn, rice, beans and other cereals. After delivering the goods to the owner of the site, buy fertilizer, tractor driver pay, the money earned from work is not very rural. But the calm of the place - doors and windows remain open on a simple construction and old - will not be replaced by the bustle of the city, relying on the family.

They never imagined that far. They lived in no hurry to know until when. Raised children. Grandchildren and great grandchildren were born. Some died. The characters in this story continued here. Closely followed the popularization of radio and car. There were wars. Governments began and ended. Everything seen through their eyes, they felt life imprint a map in your skin. Leave marks to tell stories. Each one is a trait in his wrinkled face, hiding the eyes and ad fatigue. Completed a century of life. Upon reaching that mark, believed to be near the end. But if mistaken.

Leocádio Rodrigues de Lima, 110 years, and Maria Rosa dos Santos, 105, are practically neighbors. They live in St. Anthony's Discovered in surrounding areas. The city is just over 40km of Brasilia. The centenarians were famous in the city. All know. They want to learn from them the formula for longevity. Leocadio Mary not only surpasses the number of birthdays, but when it comes to fitness.

He can walk alone, take a few steps away. Still talk clearly and has memories. Sometimes lost among reports and scrambles events. Eat without help. Choose the menu when you have a chance: rib of beef cooked with plenty of cassava and pumpkin. Devours the plate, accompanied by a cold glass of guarana. Mary, in turn, can not get up without help. Not articulated phrases. Both, however, maintain the health of days.

Female - Odila Custódia da Silva (Aug 07 1901) of Timóteo, Minas Gerais, Brazil
(Birthplace: Bom Jesus do Galho, Minas Gerais, Brazil)

111 Years - A resident of Timothy may be the oldest in the region

A resident of the district of Cachoeira do Vale, Timothy, about 90km from Itabira, may be the oldest woman of the Steel Valley Her family said that on August 7 this year, Odila Custody da Silva will complete 111 years . Lively and humorous does not enjoy a centennial of more clarity than before, but exudes health and willingness to talk.

The family reports that the mother's documents were lost in a fire district in the church of St. Sebastian's goggles, the municipality of Raul Soares. Thus, the family reports estimate their age by the first World War, when it was still counted as well as lucid and talked about being a teenager between 1914 and 1918.

The daughter Maria Guiomar Alexei, 75, is the oldest of the children still alive Odila of Custody. She recalls the cases counted by the mother. "We know her age because she always told us the fear and distress felt at the beginning of his youth during World War I," he says. Thus, the resident Timothy may have been born in 1901.

On the wall of the house where she lives in St. Margaret Street, in the Grota Scallops, hangs a photograph of her late husband for over 40 years. After living most of his life in the country, the support from the crop was not as profitable as well. It was then decided that the children bring their parents to reside with them in the district of Cachoeira do Vale, Timothy.

As the family has spread to many corners of the state, the daughters of Odila can no longer account for the grandchildren, and great grandchildren of the mother, but many claim to be.

One of the pleasures remembered and told by Odila is cooking. Among the typical dishes of mine she quotes: hominy with pork, and galinhada gelding. "I walked away to pick up some great pans to make food for many people and it was too good," he says. But today the family reported the difficulty of making the centennial eating well.

Charismatic
Advancing age makes it impossible Odila remember the details of the stories of the past. With little lucidity, she confuses the very old, dates and even the identification of family members. But it seems good humor and willingness to ensure the healthy life of the century. In consultations at the health center it is the most popular, making up party organized by doctors last year, when he completed 110 years. And calls made by the doctors tell the family that if it continues, Odila live for several more years.

Longevity
Of the 14 children he had with her husband Antonio Custodio da Silva, Odila have buried almost all and only two women and one man still alive. Imérita Maria Leandro, 70, takes care of Odila with the help of her sister and granddaughter. The longevity of the mother Mary Imérita worries that she fears to be alone if the rest of the children also come to die first. "Sometimes I think I can go first and if she ever does it really happen, someone will have to take care of it," he says.

Female - Francisca Rosa Baldoíno (Sep 27 1901) of Luisburgo, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Birthplace: Lajinha, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Dona Francisca Baldwin may be the elder woman of Minas

On September 27 celebrating the national day of the Elderly, which is now commemorated on 1 October each year, drawn up by the Education Commission of the Federal Senate to reflect on the situation, law and difficulties of the elderly in the country. In this same day, aniversariou Dona Francisca Rosa Baldoíno, a native of Lajinha-MG, resident today Luisburgo-MG. upon completing 110 years old, is among the elderly in the country.

We would like to make a reflection on the elderly. In the Bible, we can also realize that the attitude the elderly was not always so peaceful or as smooth as, sometimes, we hear and we affirm.

We can see from reading the Bible that the elderly do not have a life without problems, without difficulties. But the post regarding valuation of the wisdom of the elders always appears. The Psalmist, for example, compares people who walk with God as lush trees full of force and even fruit in old age (Sl 92.13-15).

The Bible shows us a horizon than that which we perceive in our society.

"Up to your old age, I'll be the same and, even when you have white hair, I will carry you; I have already done; lead-I will, therefore, I will load and you will save them. " (Is 46.4)

The family, the community and society need to dignify the elderly, ensuring their participation in the community, defending their freedom, independence, well-being and guaranteeing them the right to life. In the social context we have several pleasant ways to live this life stage, participating in elderly group, making sure to fulfil their rights, as we always have disclosed about the disrespect to the status of the elderly.

Where has she's revelries. Where you hear noises of firecrackers she always is. Inaugurations, ceremonies, birthdays, weddings are her favorites.

It is a cheerful and happy woman. It's a very coquettish girl. Not even the weight of 108 years well lived prevents their presence at parties.

She is the Bahian Cecilia Barros Birth that much of his life he was beside husbands plowing the ground, planting seeds and dreams. Today he lives a quiet street in Douradina town 30 kilometers from Golden.

She says that after becoming a widow got a new consort. Cecilia widow again preferred to sell the small farm to live in the city close to the only daughter Benilde Vieira Moreira 73 years of age. The other daughter had already died.

For many years the Bahian born in 1911 has always been linked to cassava. The years lived in houses made of flour a woman Cecilia fiber. He learned to cook. Her delicacies were his calling card. No more messes in pots and in the wood stove. The legs are weak and the views tired.

The language remains as sharp as ever. Continues an accomplished storyteller. Remember everything with annoying sharpness. It's been forty-two years in Douradina and remembers the time three or four houses formed the hamlet. Who wants to know in detail the story of Douradina should open the pages of encyclopedic Cecilia.

When going to a party Cecilia is the last to leave. The first rays of the sun begin to emerge when the old lady asks to go partying.

Cecilia is very religious family pride and Douradina population. He lives in a simple house. A mansion! Her daughter and granddaughter Maria Benilde Nilza are always around to help her.

In April Governor André Puccinelli was in Douradina. Who was there? Cecilia with her cane. Sitting in a chair in a strategic place looked like a queen. It was the inauguration of the new building of the Department of Motor Vehicles.

In the speeches of the name Cecilia was absolute presence. The presence of mind of Cecilia is stronger than his physical presence. The silence is absolute when his name is mentioned.

Beside Cecilia was the daughter and granddaughter Maria Nilza Benilde. A triad of strong women and mothers who did not succumb to the world eminently masculine and macho and pierced more than a century of history leaving for current and next generation DNA of hope, faith and joy for life.

Dona Balbina about to go into the Guinness Book

The press Catarina is mobilized to try to find someone older than tijucana who turns 110 years

In 2009, the oldest woman in the world was Sakhan Dosova, born March 27, 1879, in Europe. Sadly passed away. On June 21, 2011 the international press reported the death of Maria Gomes Valentine, at the time the oldest woman in the world with 114 years.
In 2011 the Journal Ledger began a search to find out who was the oldest woman in Santa Catarina . The first barrier found to give a reliable result was the subject document. Formerly it was common for people to be registered years after birth. Consequently, not many people know the right age. Some families say categorically that the great-grandfather or great-grandmother has a certain age, but has no way to prove it. And the entities that work in these studies only accept the registration of old age on the basis of what is written on the birth certificate. Our investigation yielded an exchange of information with the Institute of Geriatrics and Geriontologia Los Angeles - USA, who came to us through of articles published in the portal www.jornalrazao.com . The researchers of this institute confirmed that the lack of documentation is really the big problem to confirm the age of those with more longevity. Even so, the institutes seeking to catalog the available data about who has more than a century, aiming to analyze the factors that most influence to achieve such advanced ages. Within a few weeks Alexandre Regis tijuquense Maria Balbina complete 110 years of life . And she has a birth certificate to show. Last year we discovered that there were two other Santa Catarina who had completed 110 years, however we can not contact the families of the same. Some sources ensured that the two are now deceased, but are not official information. The Dona Balbina doubts about whether it is the oldest Santa Catarina has led the Official Reason to call Catarinense various segments of society to collaborate in this research. We are maintaining contacts with the IBGE, the Judiciary, Civil Police, ADI - Association of Daily Interior, ACAERT - Santa Catarina Association of Radio and TV, ADJORI - Newspaper Association of Interior and with agencies of Geriatrics and Geriontologia of the whole green belly. Perhaps there are others with the same age, but should be minor. Independent Dona Balbina or not the older Santa Catarina, what matters is applaud her and celebrate the date as it is not anyone who gets that far. If you, surfer or reader of the Journal Ledger, knows someone who was born before March 29, 1902, please let us know. If all goes well, soon we may have a tijucana in the Guinness Book.

Our goal is to say, policies on official data, in the municipality of Tijucas is one of the oldest people in the nation. However, until we these official information to ensure that satisfied in Santa Luzia older woman lives of Tijucas: Doña Balbina Maria Régis Alexander.

Beginning of a Story
At the end of the 19th century Santa Luzia was already a promising village. By ali went all the way to the Capital, using the old road built by slaves. It was there, at Rua da Tiririca, who was born on 19 May 1904 Pedro Ivo Alexander.
Pedro Ivo married a brusquense call Marcelina, and had two sons: Joseph and Mary. Marcelina became pregnant for the third time, now of twins. Were born two sons: Euclid and Elionay. One was born one day, the other the next day. Marcelina unfortunately died shortly after the second birth.

Some time after becoming a widower, Pedro Ivo remarry. The chosen was a Lady of Santa Luzia called Balbina, born on the 29th of March 1902. His parents were Frances Romana and José Eugênio Régis, and had 13irmãos: Felipe, Lydia, Manoel, Leopoldo, John, Raymond, Hermogenes, Victor, Estevam, Vital, Paulina, Silvina and Maria. For those who haven't done the math, next Tuesday as Doña Balbina will blast 109 candles.

The Husband of Doña Balbina
Pedro Ivo Alexander owned an extensive plot of land which if understood of Cyperus Rotundus – known point neighborhood Santa Luzia – so where is today the pottery Portobello. Raising cattle, pigs and poultry and farmed a different crops year-round. He was known throughout the city by wagon which featured rear painted their initials: PIA. Formerly the carts used plates were documented and their drivers had to possess boleeiro portfolio
.
Tells the family that the late Pedro Ivo usually stopped his wagon at school Reunited Sibylla Halberbeck square – today Valerius Gomes – near the time of recreation to see Paul and Jony grandchildren, sons of Alexander and Alexander Eleonay Soraia. Often he served the grandchildren a good slice of watermelon or umalaranja that he himself farmed and sold. ' He cut or descascava fruit and with the tip of the machete was removing the seeds, then gave us only miolinho ' recorda Paulo Roberto Alexandre – Paulo of Nai.

In the late 1960s, in the company of his Balbina, Pedro Ivo Alexander traveled to Joinville, where he was visiting relatives. On Christmas day to family saboreava the afternoon coffee when Seo Pedro Ivo felt sick and died after suffering from stroke.
And so, aged 57, Doña Balbina was widowed. This is 51 years.
The grandson Paulo Alexandre Doña Balbina frequently visit

The Young Balbina
Maria Balbina Régis Alexander grew up working as all children of his time. Were difficult times of scarce resources to families with many children. Fun was only in the Church. Balbina account "at the time of the feast of Santa Luzia our mother sent us join, drying and orders coffee bean. After breakfast she took in selling pilado there near the River, negotiated a fabric to make a dress for us. The mother even sewed. Hence in the feast we laid a tamanquinho and the new dress, full cheeks ".

In his youth, Balbina attended the balls and Club Luziense domingueiras, but after he married his life work was just too much work. She says that was truly passionate husband who never spared no compliments. "The Ivo had no vices, not played, and neither smoked not drank, lived only for work and family," he recalls.

If the Pedro Ivo and Doña Balbina had three children: Marina, Idalina and Newton, who is deceased. Marina mora in Mato Grosso and Idalina resides in Joinville. Children of first marriage of Pedro, Maria died at the age of ten. José lived in

Tijucas until one day they decided to go to the Mato Grosso, where never returned. The twins Elionay and Euclid also are no longer among the living.
The death of the husband stirred much with Doña Balbina, who never stopped working. At 60 years came to fall from the top of a foot of coffee while picking up fruit and was injured seriously, but never went to the hospital. Not going to the doctor and take medicine.

Up to 105 years Balbina lived alone. At that time the granddaughter Maria, daughter of Nílton Alexander moved in with her, bringing an end to his days of solitude. Mary, granddaughter companion, deserves our applause!

The secrets of a long life
The older woman walks too little region, on the grounds of rheumatism. Wake up at 6 h or h in the morning and never goes to sleep after 9 pm. Not watching more TV because I believe that television teaches us what is good and what doesn't. And so goes live as God wants.

One of the things that always draws the attention of those who chat with Doña Balbina is the secret of his power. She, however, makes no mystery: does not eat bread, and neither egg, chicken, duck, duck, Turkey or any other Critter penalty. It doesn't take any kind of ice cream, but does not relieve a shot almost every day wine biscuits, crackers,. fruit, vegetables and legumes at will, without dismissing the meal mush and bananas fried at least five white ouaté even six times a week.

In childhood and adolescence Balbina arrived to catch the father for being too demanding to the Bureau. "It was customary to eat a lot of hunting, dirty foot chicken, bird and fish of all things type, but I didn't like that, not ate and was picking up," says, nothing nostalgic. Today she eats much meat cattle, loves a carninha pork and sometimes makes feijoada, from those with Charqui, bacon, fillet, bacon and vegetables. Sweet water fish or thinking. Sea mullet, corvina, and cigar. I ate a lot of bluefish, catfish, crab, shrimp and shellfish, but says that these fish and seafood lost the natural taste and today have very strange tastes.
It is important to note that even with the presence of Mary's granddaughter, Doña Balbina enjoys preparing meals – once in a while ...On the stove, of course, because gas stove ever entered his house!
